Epifani is gaining weight...

+1... TB is for exchanging opinions and new information. This is new information obtained by a TBer directly from Epifani.

Since I regularly recommend these wonderful cabs to those looking for a full, modern pop/funk/jazz tone in a lightweight package, I try to stay up (and make public) issues such as this.

Quite frankly, I would be bummed if I recommended a 56 pound cab to someone, and it was 66 pounds when they got it:hmm:

Excellent point!

But it just seems this will cause negative press for Epi again
Well, the facts are the facts, and if people find these to be negative changes, then so be it. It is what it is.

and it has not been publically explained yet by them.
Yes it has. I called them directly myself yesterday.

I would have to guess there is some real reason why they did what they did
There is, and I posted them. Again, material availability and European environmental standards.

and I won't let 9 pounds sway me until they officially explain it.

Mike
Well, if you want to call them yourself, or wait for a web site comment, that's of course your prerogative, and nobody should have a problem with that, but again, I'm not making this stuff up. I spoke to them in person BEFORE I posted.

Thing is, all said and done, I don't see how this could be anything but negative. HOWEVER, IMHO, the only real question is, is it significant or not? To me it was, but again, I suspect to many (such as yourself) it won't be, which is also of course perfectly cool.

pbass78, sorry dude, didn't realize others had posted already, don't mean to sound like I'm dog pilin' on ya. :) Just trying to make sure folks know I'm not supposing any of this on my own, is all. :)

Vic,

I'm down with that!

Mike

Vic,

Weeks ago, I left a voicemail and sent two emails to Epifani, I have yet to get an answer from them.

You have some better contact number you can get me? Next time I need to contact them, I'd really like to get an answer.

Mike
Holy crap! Seriously, no! All I've ever done is call on the phone when I wanted to make sure I got an answer in the short term. I've had great luck just getting someone. That said, keep in mind I call them very rarely... maybe a year ago last time, so not much of a "test", but FWIW, anyway. I'd just say try again.

Seriously, yeah!

It doesn't matter, I don't need the information anymore.

Mike

LOL!!!

Well in that case, I'm gettin' out the brats and beer, and settin' out the extension cords, 'cause if you're comin' over, we're doing the TB hang! :D

I'll take three brats, and at least double that in beers. See you in a few.

Tom.

P.S.
Being 'Mr. Weight-Tolerant', I just thought I'd add that if the newer, heavier, S2 UL-410's sound equally as good as the lighter ones, I wouldn't let that sway me from a purchase. But, for those to whom it does matter (and I can see very valid reasons for it mattering to folks with bad backs, etc.), this is definitely a more significant development.

Not good. I've just been to their website - no changes to the description of building materials or weight specs - yet. :smug: So technically they're also willingly misrepresenting some of their products in their favor and against their customers'. At the prices they charge, I'm not cutting them any slack for this.

What should they call this series, "Series 2B" or "2H"? :rollno:

You guys all have to remember that the world is a changin'. Supplies of various woods are running low, so changes in materials will always be a factor. Also, keep in mind that the value of the dollar is effecting manufacturing decisions here in the states. As the value of the dollar falls, the cost of those B&C speakers goes up and up, as does the cost of a lot of those premium plywoods that are used in the cabinet industry that come from outside the USA. I think the decision to move to Eminence speakers had much to do with that Euro/Dollar relationship. Do they switch speaker manufacturers, or keep passing along the rising cost to you with price increases every couple months?

I just bought one three weeks ago. I wonder what it weighs? I will weight it and let you all know later today...

Quite frankly, I would be bummed if I recommended a 56 pound cab to someone, and it was 66 pounds when they got it:hmm:

Sounds like what happened to me on my Eden gear! I bought:
1) DC112XLT combo - advertised at 49 pounds, weighed 62.
2) D112XLT cab - advertised at 38 pounds, weighed 44.
3) CXC110 combo - advertised at 39 pounds, weighed 50.

That was really my only beef with Eden ... gear that weighed a ton more than advertised.

On another note ... the Epifani 410 at 66 pounds now isn't that much lighter than the Genz Benz Uber 410 at 72! Although the tone goals are, I think, different. Two *great* cabs at comparable weights.

Cheers

Those types of issues apply across the board for Eden. They sent this info out to their resellers who in turn advertised the products incorrectly in their sales literature/websites. Even the user manuals contained erroneous claims about products. I was extremely peeved over my wt550's lack of a pre-EQ DI, even though it stated very boldly in the online users manual that it had such a switch.

But it's all good. Just like many of us have reported, all my Genz cabinets actually weigh LESS than advertised, so I guess it's all a wash for me now. :D

The weight increase is unfortunate.

When you're at ~50 lbs., a 9lb. weight increase translates to almost 20%, which is not insignificant for some people. The lower weight of the Epifani was an important consideration and a major positive for me in comparing it with the AE410.

Still, that's the reality of the materials and EU guidelines, I guess.

That being said, I absolutely LOVE my new AE410!!!! :hyper:

FWIW, my AE410 weighs 62.9 lbs. according to my bathroom scale. <1 lb. over the advertised weight isn't that big of a deal.
