Episode 88: S/D thread - No Hope

I can't believe i after this winter and I know my winters are way easier in Virginia but I am actually sitting at a parking lot waiting for the ol lady to show up with one of our dog's to go in to the vet and considering moving my car to a shady spot! i think Spring may actually come this year LOL

Welcome back ancient tone!


Weekend is here for me, love these 4 10 hour work days.

So might be doing three real projects now. A local bassist buddy called me at 4 in the morning randomly as I was driving to work and said we need to riff, and be called Galactic Hatchet, and riff more, he's on drums and I'm on bass, guitarist if necessary down the road. I said fvck yes because I've been looking to do a two piece thing for a while. Well see how this works, first practice is tonight.


Cosmos stoned is the only way.

Heard back from Orange:

The AD200 has passive tone controls, like many other tube amps. Passive tone controls cannot boost anything they can only subtract. Therefore a "flat" setting would actually be when all the tone controls are turned all the way up. Having said that most people put the EQ controls at 12 o'clock and go from there.

While that's definitely contradictory to what we were talking about earlier (2-10-2 via Ron or 9:00-noon-3:00 via my TB/Orange forum search), I think I'd heard the explanation above previously and that's how I ended up at 3:00-noon-3:00. I thought I was "cutting" bass and treble and thus getting a mid boost. I'm confused as ever but I'm sticking with my current setting (for now) b/c it's good. Eh, I'll just run more dirt. That'll take care of anything...

i don't think they were explaining "flat" as in a flat response but flat is in no boost or cut. everything on full with the orange will likely not have a flat frequency response. my guess is that it would show a scoop in the mids with everything on full.


then again i could be totally wrong. We need Nick for this one.

That is ridiculous and insulting. What they are saying is that everything max is the least amount of signal loss but that does not equal a flat frequency response. I could do some charts to explain why it's so wrong but just turn the knobs until it sounds good.

Also remember that the amp could have some filtering else where that effects the eq.

I've come to terms that Torche is a live band. Recordings do not accurately capture how heavy they actually are. I did not care for, For Singles. But when they toured that album, god damn. It is a show i will talk about for ages to come. And I'm totally cool with them being a live band. Maybe if I go back through the catalogue, I'll be able to see some studio change, or a different engineer or something...

So, this is probably a stupid question... but...

Those who know me know that for doom I mainly play a really heavily modded Peavey bass that used to be a Precision copy. I didn't really like the sound and wasn't playing it as much, but couldn't get rid of it, as it was my first bass, a christmas gift from my mother and my late father, so I decided to mod it like crazy. I took out the P-bass pickup and routed it out to put in a Rickenbacker bridge high gain pickup.

Obviously, this left a big gaping hole where the upper half of the P-bass pickup used to be.

Recently, I asked SubRosa for a sticker and they sent me a couple. I've been thinking about using one to cover the hole.

However, ever since the mods, the bass has had amazing tone. Will covering the hole change the sound at all? What about filling in the hole with some scrap of wood and then covering it?

Adding wood possibly, sticker no.
