That was amazing. How he turned evil so quick is strange. I guess it was ment to be, so he was always that evil.

I saw it at 10:40 on the 19th at Alamo Drafthouse here in Austin. I ordered a bucket of Warstiener/Pilsner Urquel and some twizzlers. Before the movie they showed the animated clone wars episodes(everything between II and III) along with things like the 1978 christmas special with all the original cast featuring a cartoon! I was on the edge of my seat the entire movie. I loved it. Though the during the last 30 min or so I had to pee realy badly. Overall the movie was everything I wanted it to be. I love Star Wars and I take the good with the bad when it comes to the new trilogy. Plus I had a realy great time that night, I had my ticket two weeks in advance and saw it with 7 other friends. I have a copy on my computer that came out the next day so I have reviewed certain parts of the movie. I watched the Obi V.S. Aniken battle a few times and the part where the Emporer kills Windu(SLJ's redemtion as an significant charachter :D ). Anyway I realy enjoyed the film.

I enjoyed it a lot - critics are, by law, not allowed to say nice things about such commercial films - but within the realms of this I think it was by far the best of the recent movies - I'm an Empire Strikes Back fan - so this was good for me. It was very dark in places - and for once I think they got the fact that "Light Sabers are lethal weapons" across well - and graphically - limbs flying all over the place - which isn't pleasant - but at least it was realistic. Anakin's physical transformation to Darth was pretty grim as well - I shall be buying the DVD.

I've got a question that really bugs me about this whole prequel thing and this movie in particular. How do the adult characters age so much in 18 years??? You're telling me Ewan McGregor becomes Alec Guiness in 18 years? That must be some hard livin'. And Luke's Uncle and Aunt go from fresh faced young farmers to shriveled bags in 18 years???
And Leia said she remembered her mother... from what, when she was one second old???

I believe when Leia says she remembers her mother she is referring to her adopted mother not her real mother. Luke says he has no memory of his real mother, so it's unlikely that Leia would.

People have obsessions with films because they can relate to elements of them. Situations and actions relating to the main character are similar to those that people in real life face. Of course jedi's and clone wars and storm troopers never existed, but the battle between good and evil is something that nearly everyone can relate to. So is the decision to fight for something you believe in. This film is littered with basic ideas like these that people face in every day life.

It's the same for books.

Everything in Eps I & II should have been put into one movie. Everything Ep III tried to do should have been spread out over two movies.

Some dialog might have been nice. I know this ain't Shakespeare, but damn, this mush wouldn't pass muster on a greeting card.

I won't criticize the acting, because I don't think anyone on the planet could have made Anakin's and Padme's lines work. It's painful to watch Chistiansen and Portman try, but there's nothing they can do. Props to Ewen McGregor, who goes above and beyond, but still, he's fettered to dumb lines.

Visually, aside from the Emperor's "early 80s heavy metal video" makeup job, the film is stunning. The story outline makes sense, and could have been made into a script if they'd hired a writer.

The editing is abrupt and jarring, going for a "isn't this cool" approach instead of "this is meaningful."

And why did they tease us about the Wookies? Damn, I wanted to see Chewbacca rip some arms off, finally, but nada.

Peter Jackson, after you remake King Kong, could you be so kind as to remake Star Wars? We'd appreciate it. Thanks.

I'd have to partially agree, but mostly disagree. I know there wasn't a lot of dialogue but I'm glad there wasn't. I think most people would prefer see the story take place rather than hear what the characters have to say about it. It's really a busy story and it doesn't leave a lot of room for character development. And, considering that most of the characters are simply good or bad, and those that are niether are unimportant, what they say doesn't impact the story anywhere near as much as what they do. The story in ROTS was supposed to be action based, not dialogue based. I do agree tho, that Anikin and Padme's interaction could have been better.

I disagree about the editing. I don't think it was abrupt and jarring - especially in comparision to many of the films that have come out in the last few years (Bourne Supremacy anyone? that was horrid).

Just MHO of course.

Dude, that was Captain Antilles, the guy who Vader throttles in Ep IV. I guess Wedge is his son or something.

I can't remember the name of the ship. One thing I liked a lot in Ep III was that Grand Moff Tarkin was in it. I thought that was great.
