Avery is in, but Navarro is out. Bummer.

Any band is a thing if they get back together, and there’s still enough of an enthusiastic(or rabid)fan base to support a tour, reunion or not. They’re the new classic rock, you know.
I dont disagree at all, just wasnt aware they are back together/active/playing/being a band/…a thing.

Saw the ATL tour stop last night. They sounded great, and Avery's bass was absolutely huge in the mix. I know he's been ampless for awhile, but his tone was earth-shaking even in the cheap seats. I was hoping for the 4 original members onstage, but once they got going, I didn't really miss Navarro.
sad for Chad but if Dave pulls thru this will be as good as the recent emergency reunion of Pornos, they too had to juggle players til Martyn got back onboard, but with these grunge era bands it's their common music ideals and camaraderie which elevates them above most individual parts. they can plug in someone and keep the special thing going, but if JA can replicate what was there originally plus add the new, look out. I enjoyed the last shows by the OG @ Aloha Tower and a few incredible PFP gigs later that solidified their particular abilities long ago so it's great to see them trying again for all the right reasons.
IMO Perry Cannot sing anymore.
Hopefully he can still put on an energetic and entertaining show

Reviving this thread: US tour dates were announced, but nothing close to me at all, and I live in a large city. The closest date is almost 4 hours drive away, and that’s a festival. A lot of the stops are smaller markets.
I hope they announce another round of tour dates. I’d love to see the OG lineup one more time.

We're going to see them in Raleigh. I saw them back in '92 and they were quite good. My wife's a bigger fan than I am and she's never seen them, so this is a good opportunity, even if Perry struggles.
Perry was never a "good" singer and I don't think he ever pretended to be. Has it gotten noticeably worse? A bit. If you didn't like him before you still won't. If you did it won't matter much.
Well I saw the OG 4 yesterday in Italy and it was hell of a gig, beyond my expectations!
Yeah Perry sounds "old" but he sure still can sing! I heard some recent clips where he struggled, but not yesterday.
Seeing Eric play was my dream come true (technically I saw him with Garbage on a festival gig, but I found out that it was him on bass a few months later
).
Gear-wise he uses new black Fender P-bass with rosewood (not Brahms or Nash). Fender amps and cabs.
Some drive/distortion on "Whores" and few heavy bits, reverb/freeze for in-between songs stuff, boost/eq here and there. He sounded massive.

I've seen him with Garbage twice and once with Jane's when they recently toured with Smashing Pumpkins. But unless they can get a bit closer to me on this tour, I won't make it.
Regarding Perry, I've always thought his voice was a perfect fit for their music, but he's really straining to hit the notes these days. Even with the tunings dropped. He's not Vince Neil bad, but it's definitely noticeable.
I'm really curious to see what they come up with for a new album.

Janes Addiction is one of my all-time favorite bands and I love tons of bands. Eric Avery was/is a huge influence on my playing style. I originally began playing guitar, but switched to bass and played with a pick, and more or less was developing a style that was more riff/bass-guitar than the stand out rock bassists of the times (JPJ, Geezer, Geddy Lee, Steve Harris, Chris Squire, Sir Paul, John Entwistle, and so on). Paul SImonon, Simon Gallup, Peter Hook and Steven Severin were already on my radar, but when I heard Eric Avery do it, masterfully, in a hard rock set I was blown away, but his playing also validated and encouraged me that you dont need to be virtuoso-flashy to be part of the creativity and magic of making music.
I saw JA several times live. Beginning with the original lineup when they toured Ritual and headlined the 1st Lollapalooza, that show was beyond epic.
Then 2 or 3 times with Chris Chaney who was incredible, followed by last year's tour with Eric Avery's return. Dave was unable to play (due to long covid) so Troy Van Leeuwen held down the fort, did an amazing job. EA was absolutely thunderous, spot on and locked-in with Stephen Perkins the entire show. He circled, stomped and prowled his side of the stage with the same enthusiasm he had in '91. I can't wait to see him back on the same stage with Dave. I know he and Perry wrote at least 1 new song. Perry doesn't need to sing like he did when he was 25 anymore, just be in the neighborhood, just lead the way, hit those delays and swirl effects and the crowd will sing along anyhow.
