Mike makes really great stuff, but I got the impression that she doesn't play it very much.

I guess only Larry Graham, Chris Squire, and Geddy Lee do anything similar.
Will Lee.......

It was interesting to see her play on that last clip. She is definitely look at her hands while singing to keep her place, while still singing like an angel. She has to be in the top percentile of singing bassists. None of her basslines are the kind of easy stuff that works around vocals. I guess only Larry Graham, Chris Squire, and Geddy Lee do anything similar.
I did overstate the singing and playing thing. Many bassists do it, but I have never seen anyone nail walking, swinging basslines while singing lead vocals before.![]()
I like her interview below, at 9.00 min, she says something about hip hop which I am sure would make some cringe, but there is some truth to it as well.
I don't think it will make any honest person cringe. So much hip hop is not really created for people who have lived the inner city life, it is made for people who fantasize about that life. The byproduct is young kids in the inner city are sent the message that that which is negative is something to revel in instead of something to improve or remove.
As for Esperanza. She is a hard worker, and clearly someone with goals and a vision for what she wants. We should all be that fortunate.![]()

I just discovered this YouTube performance by some sweaty hairy hippie slacker (!) but man can he swing! And check out his vocals!
Do you mean Mike Dolan http://www.dolanguitars.com/ or a different guy?
Why isn't this in Double Bass section...
