I tossed out an old Guild pilot. I was young and dumb(er) and took it apart, tried to mod it, but ended up screwing the whole thing up.

Ever thrown a bass away?

I threw away my first bass, a cheap Samick P-bass clone. I had sawed off the body horns to make a teardrop shape (inspired by Geddy Lee's similar mangling of his old P-bass), did some similar mangling to the headstock, spraypainted the whole thing blue, except for the fretboard, and ripped out the frets, and then finally the truss rod broke a couple years later.
Threw it right into the dumpster, but I saved the hardware. Although right now all I can find is the pickup and the knobs.
In retrospect, I wish I never did any of that to that poor bass!

Yup, a five string Rogue (the Musician's Friend "house brand" bass). Probably paid a little over $100 new, and after a few years sitting in the closet while I was playing better basses the neck was so out of wack I just tossed it.
I and a friend took a mattox to my first bass, a Memphis P-Bass copy. Then we threw the chunks into the creek behind my parents house.
I had an infamous experince with Fat Dog at Subway in Berkeley. I had him build me a tele bass copy using quality hardware and electronics. The guy was so stinky, so ADD-addled, so untalented, so stupid, and so full of ****, he ruined a Warmoth slab body and a Mighty Mite neck. I stripped the hardware and electronics off immediately and gave the remains to a guy that purchased a cabinet from me for free. Look for my review of Subway work on HC:

Two days ago I gave away an applause accoustic bass that I had forgotten I even had to one of the guys moving my mom out of her house. The truss rod and neck were warped byond repair, and plus I haven't even touched it in 4 years so I got rid of a worthless bass for a little piece of mind about all my mothers belongings.
two of them actually. The first was a Rogue P-Bass that I bought off of musician's friend with the intent of smashing it up on stage at the following gig. I smashed it and then threw the remnants into the crowd. The second was a mod project of mine (my first actually) that took a nasty fall down a flight of stairs. The neck, pickups, preamp and bridge survived, so I scabbed those for later use and threw the body away.
One late afternoon about 2 years ago, my dad was cleaning out his basement and came across 3 guitar bodies and 1 bass body that my brother and I had forgotten long ago. Without asking he took them to his band saw cut them into little pieces to burn in his fire pit. One was a 1965 Gibson SG, a 1967 Harmony P-Bass, A Univox High Flyer and I think the other was a 1970 Harmony Strat. All in all a whole lot of money went into that fire pit.
Not quite a bass, but my uncle did the same to an upright piano that my grandma left for me. Smashed it to bits when I was 14. I haven't spoken to him since. I'm 23.iriegnome said:

I don't think I've ever thrown anything away that has ever had purpose. Like the boxes my cabs came in, I put a small gift and some weight in those and give them to people for their birthdays.
I had a BC Rich Eagle bass with a mohagany neck that was neck thru I believe, and the neck cork-screwed on me(twisted), When I arrived at the repairshop to pick it up
there was nothing they could do and it was out of the companys 90 day warranty(back in 1977). when I got home I took it out of the case and threw down on the driveway then smashed the S$%t out of it and then I threw it out.

there was this peavey thing that looked a bit like a bass. it even claimed to be a bass. there was no way in hell it actually counted as a bass. it had to be lilke 28'' scale at most, the crappy electronics were falling out, the bridge was rusty, and the wood was like wafer board or something. it appeared in my closet and wouldn't go away. i tried to chuck it when i moved out, and one of my roommates "saved" it. now, it lives on his floor, never to be played. serves him right.
some friends found this mid 80's horrid memphis shortscale bass , it was all black no pick guard 1 pick up did not work it was all scratchy sounding and the nut was busted i actually played it but got mad and tossed it snapping the neck so we smashed, burned and nailed it together to burn it again . I think its still in his backyard this was 2 years ago.
I gave away my signature jazz bass body to a guy... turns out later it was a repainted SX, but hey... 
When I was in my early 20s (46 now) I tried to refinish an Aria hollow body....I FAILED.....I threw it away.
I really wish I had a do-over on that one.:scowl:

An old Vox Bass I stripped and was going to do up but never got round to it, but I sold the neck to some guy in switzerland.
A marlin Jazz Bass I had thrown across the room and it landed on it's face after a crazy jamming session. we were in the zone. It was a shite Bass.
And an old satellite sg type that I bought from an auction for £12.00 I done that up but done a really bad job of it. I was 17.
All in the bin. I'm such a fool but you live and learn.
