Oh my...John Cooper uses a $3000 (I think) GMP too, and His Tobias had a broken neck...so He was using a rogue? 0.o.
Skillet's really good though, my favorite Christian band...

kim deal of the pixies played an aria pro 2 with a peavey "boat anchor of hell" combo 300, he still used that amp for several albums (but changed her bass for an american fender precision)
I saw Skillet a couple years ago at the Alliant Colliseum in Madison, Wisconsin. The bass player was using a Traben 5 string.
That must have been his backup... I'm a HUGE fan of Skillet, and John Cooper usually plays a really nice Traben 5-String. That's interesting though.

Graham Maby used an Ibanez Silver Series PJ-bass on "Look Sharp", which was a major influence on me.
a relatively unknown player, Cris Kirkwood of the (recently reformed) Meat Puppets used a bottom shelf MIM Squier when I saw the band last spring. His brother and main songwriter of the MPs, had switched to a fender strat to. I'd never seen him with anything but a les paul. Even weirder, Curt always played thru high end boutique amps such as, soldano, and bogner. This time he was playing a PEAVEY BANDIT w/a 10" speaker. Cris used a small GK combo. It was weird.
Since their back on the circuit with a van, (after using a tour bus in the early 90's) they were probably going for efficency and comfort and decided the big rock band setups were for the birds.

I don't know if many people outside of the UK will remember this band, but England's "New Model Army" had a very unusual and skillful (original) bassist in the form of Stuart Morrow 
.
He played quite complex licks with (often) incredible speed, whilst the guitarist just kind of "filled in" in the background, for the most part. Even after they had a few Top 40 hits in the UK, Stu still stuck to his Westone Thunder Jet bass. Through his Trace Elliot stack though, it was an awesome sound, from a very original bassist

Nothing wrong with close string spacing. You can still slap/pop 'em, and fingerstyle/plectrum is faster.
Hadrien Feraud seems to mainly play a Smith burner bass; which is around the same price as a new fender MIJ here in Australia... not terribly expensive by any means. Great player though!
