Exotic Pickguards... Let's See Them!

And the Bongo.......

Wow. I have not seen a rig quite like that one. What are the details on it? Very nice! :bassist:

Just finished making this with a friend (who has the right tools and more no-how than I ! ;)

Sure it could've been a tad neater, but I'm extremely happy with my little project bass!
I'm really glad I went with a seperate ramp/J pup sleeve. Let me know what you think. First time doing anything like this...:D

It was a 72' P-bass I found while on the road. The only thing left of that is the body. It's got an Audere pre and Lane Poor pups. It was modified (poorly) when I bought it, so I figured I'd just go to town on it and see what happened... It plays and sounds WONDERFUL now! stoked on it...

When I got this used Roscoe Beck V it was just another one of thousands, but after a good setup with new Chrome flats and this "snakeskin" pickguard, it became "Rufus".

Unfortunately I don't have any pics, but back in 1978, with the help of Dave Phelsenthal of MIT's Electronic Research Society, I built a new pickguard for my Gibson Ripper out of 1/8" thick aluminum. The really cool thing is that rather than copy the shape of the original huge Gibson plastic pickguard that covers most of the face of the bass, I just traced the lower third, so it only covered the control cavity. Looked sort of like the floating pickguard on an archtop f-hole guitar. Tre sexy.
