Explain me the 'Fender is God' thing

OP, I posted a similar thread a few months back. I'm on board with ya. They're just not my thing. Some folks love them, some folks hate them, and some folks sit in the middle. I could care less if they were the first, the most popular, or who played them; they just aren't for me. I don't see any real issue with not liking them or any other brand for that matter. It boils down to personal preference and if I don't like powdered dohnuts, I don't have to eat them.

Personally I play whatever I think sounds/feels good
I I think there is nothing wrong with Fender and I am thinking of picking up a P-bass pretty soon
but You could never get me to trade my ASAT

I own 2 basses. A Precision and a Stingray. I usually gig with the Precision. I also record with the Precision. Don't get me wrong, I love my Stingray and would never sell it. But when it's time to go to work, the Fender is where it's at..

I think the reason why I love my Fender so much is that it sounds like the bass does on all of my favourite albums. And in a gig or recording situation, it'll sit in a mix with no problems at all.

Wow... lots of stuff here. For me, Fender is like a Ford or Chevy. It gets the job done, usually done well, without being fancy. It is what it is and doesn't make claims to be what it isn't. There are lots of sports cars and luxury vehicles out there that offer more accessories, features, etc. Some are better suited to the race track, some are best suited for rugged landscapes, and there are many in between. Fenders are not Lamborghinis or Rolls Royces, IMO. Save that distinction for Sadowsky, Ken Smith, etc.

Fender Precision = Ford truck
Fender Jazz = Chevy Camaro
Squire = Fleet vehicles

What is that other bass companies have done that Fender will never do?

Make a bass with a different shape other than J-bass or P-bass.Make a bass that doesn't route through the front so that the bass needs a pickguard.Use 24 carat gold hardware.Make a headless bass.Make a bass that can make ANY other bass sound(Like Alembic does)Use exotic woods routinely.Make a production 6,7,8,9 string bass.Make a multi-string tapping instrument.Change the style.Oh!I was wrong.Fender DID do a bass for Alien Ant Farm bassist Ty Zamora,but much to my disapointment it was a one time only bass.Not a new production line of basses.Get out of the Fifties style mentality.Remember the Tortoise and the Hare story?Fender is the Tortoise.

No.Way too costly.I had to "settle"and buy basses that I really wasn't enthused about until bass makers started making basses that I CAN get enthused about.And Fender,for me, has never done that.Nowadays makers are making basses that don't have to have paint,pickguard.and chrome AND sound great.I "Blame" my taste on Stanley Clarke.

btw, superfinelin9, not lumping you in with the stupid people, but leo wouldn't have said fenders were his best work when he owned g&l. that said, g&l does make nice stuff.

i made my case in my previous post, and with this here post, i rest my case. half of this post is based on flat out lies, the other half is based on...well, hell, i have no idea what it's based on.

As a kid, I dreamed of owning all sorts of different basses. Now that I'm older, I've owned pretty much every bass I've ever wanted.

Every gig I do, I take a Jazz bass.

Go figure.

If you think an Alembic sounds like a P Bass, or even a Tele Bass, then you need your ears checked.

Use exotic woods routinely.

They do, in their Custom Shop models (as well as some production models)

Make a production 6,7,8,9 string bass.

Why ? That's a tremendously limited market (though they made a 6 string - Tye Zamora model...as well as the Heartfield line which included 6 string basses). Fender likes to make money. ERBs are a tough sell.

Make a multi-string tapping instrument.

Why ? So they can sell two or three extra instruments per year ?

so here's the bottom line...

yes, i love fenders and mostly play fenders. but i have owned and still own a few basses that aren't fenders or fender copies. now i realize that this might be a strange concept to some of you less well-thought-out types, but unless there is some sort of weird gun-toting fender-loving madman holding you hostage, NOBODY IS FORCING YOU TO PLAY FENDERS!

so what is all the stupid complaining about? fenders exist for the people who like fenders. for everyone else, there are plenty of other basses you can buy. so go take your meds and lie down.
