Explain me the 'Fender is God' thing

Under bang for your buck, try Rickky's. Around here they're almost the same price, so...
It's not about PRICE; it's about sound. If it was about price then you should be looking at Squire (which you said you won't look at)--or Rouge.

These Fender bash threads get old and boring. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Fender ain't broke but if don't like Fender, don't play one.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thx bill! always love to entertain!

so here's the bottom line...

yes, i love fenders and mostly play fenders. but i have owned and still own a few basses that aren't fenders or fender copies. now i realize that this might be a strange concept to some of you less well-thought-out types, but unless there is some sort of weird gun-toting fender-loving madman holding you hostage, NOBODY IS FORCING YOU TO PLAY FENDERS!

so what is all the stupid complaining about? fenders exist for the people who like fenders. for everyone else, there are plenty of other basses you can buy. so go take your meds and lie down.

How dare you insinuate that people are allowed to not like Fenders when many/most others do is absolutely preposterous! :spit::p;)

Heres my reasoning to love Fenders..

They were the original, they are the 'standard' if you will.. Means..

-99% of sound engineers know how to mix them
-when you are on the road, no matter where you are, most of the time if something breaks its easy to find a replacement part that will most likely fit. Even the most backwards country town with a small music store will have some form of fender copy that can be cannibalized for parts that will probably fit!
-if its stolen while on the road, something that feels and looks similar can be bought as an emergency replacement (being the most copied basses in the world).
-they are held together with screws, nothing fancy, easy to fix

Make a bass with a different shape other than J-bass or P-bass.Make a bass that doesn't route through the front so that the bass needs a pickguard.Use 24 carat gold hardware.Make a headless bass.Make a bass that can make ANY other bass sound(Like Alembic does)Use exotic woods routinely.Make a production 6,7,8,9 string bass.Make a multi-string tapping instrument.Change the style.Oh!I was wrong.Fender DID do a bass for Alien Ant Farm bassist Ty Zamora, but much to my disapointment it was a one time only bass. Not a new production line of basses.Get out of the Fifties style mentality.Remember the Tortoise and the Hare story?Fender is the Tortoise.

Epic fail.

this thread is ass. not only is it old, but it's based on a stupid premise, and a lot of stupid people have posted in it, so it's actually stupid ass.
Thanks for the heads-up, I didn't bother with the previous pages.

It got me thinking, and maybe it's been touched on previously, but when I see a band, I always expect to see a Les Paul or SG or Strat or Tele. When I see a Fender bass, I think, "Oh, another Fender!" Maybe it's because I don't have as much interest in the guitars? I don't know.

Just my 2 cents worth...1 cent stupid and 1 cent a$$.

X8 ;)

btw, superfinelin9, not lumping you in with the stupid people, but leo wouldn't have said fenders were his best work when he owned g&l. that said, g&l does make nice stuff.

I agree with you on all points. This thread is a thread of opinions. and like they say Opinions are like butt holes, everybody has one and they stink.

I was just throwing my own 2cents in there, and trolling a bit.

And if Leo Fender had some more years in him I bet he would have just built G&L up and moved on

Fender is not god.

However, In the beginning, god said "Let there be bass guitars. And the bass guitars shall be called Fender. And the Fenders shall be of two types: Precision basses and Jazz basses. And thou shalt take no other bass guitars before Fender. And thou shalt love thy Fender with all thy heart, all thy soul, and all thy mind. Do unto your Fender as you wouldst have it do unto you. Love thy Fender as thyself. Use thy Fender to make a joyful noise."

Yea, yea, it shall be so.

I wasnt a big fan of fenders back in the 70's. I thought other companies offered better basses for the money even back then. I dunno why some think fenders are god. They are largely responsible for the success of dimarzio and seymour duncan (pup upgrade), baddass and gotoh (bridge upgrade) and even warmouth (neck upgrade). If anything to me fender represents a early company whose pups and hardware was lacking resulting in tons of owners wanting upgrades to the stock product.

Pffft..... 3/4 of most bass players mod basses by all makers. What does that say today?
