It's not about PRICE; it's about sound. If it was about price then you should be looking at Squire (which you said you won't look at)--or Rouge.Under bang for your buck, try Rickky's. Around here they're almost the same price, so...
Who has a picture of Kelso from That 70's Show? BURN!Dude, the tortoise wins.
thx bill! always love to entertain!
so here's the bottom line...
yes, i love fenders and mostly play fenders. but i have owned and still own a few basses that aren't fenders or fender copies. now i realize that this might be a strange concept to some of you less well-thought-out types, but unless there is some sort of weird gun-toting fender-loving madman holding you hostage, NOBODY IS FORCING YOU TO PLAY FENDERS!
so what is all the stupid complaining about? fenders exist for the people who like fenders. for everyone else, there are plenty of other basses you can buy. so go take your meds and lie down.

i agree, greg. i hate to have to bite my tongueI'd like to see a special section of TB where we can verbally abuse people who dredge up threads like this.![]()
Make a bass with a different shape other than J-bass or P-bass.Make a bass that doesn't route through the front so that the bass needs a pickguard.Use 24 carat gold hardware.Make a headless bass.Make a bass that can make ANY other bass sound(Like Alembic does)Use exotic woods routinely.Make a production 6,7,8,9 string bass.Make a multi-string tapping instrument.Change the style.Oh!I was wrong.Fender DID do a bass for Alien Ant Farm bassist Ty Zamora, but much to my disapointment it was a one time only bass. Not a new production line of basses.Get out of the Fifties style mentality.Remember the Tortoise and the Hare story?Fender is the Tortoise.
Thanks for the heads-up, I didn't bother with the previous pages.this thread is ass. not only is it old, but it's based on a stupid premise, and a lot of stupid people have posted in it, so it's actually stupid ass.

btw, superfinelin9, not lumping you in with the stupid people, but leo wouldn't have said fenders were his best work when he owned g&l. that said, g&l does make nice stuff.

These Fender bash threads get old and boring. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Fender ain't broke but if don't like Fender, don't play one.

I wasnt a big fan of fenders back in the 70's. I thought other companies offered better basses for the money even back then. I dunno why some think fenders are god. They are largely responsible for the success of dimarzio and seymour duncan (pup upgrade), baddass and gotoh (bridge upgrade) and even warmouth (neck upgrade). If anything to me fender represents a early company whose pups and hardware was lacking resulting in tons of owners wanting upgrades to the stock product.
