WT & F was that?!. I wanted to smash something but I couldnt stop myself from watching it. Instantly stressed out and agitated I was from seeing this.

This one F'd me up when I was in hallucination mode and even straight it makes me want to lose my shytt.
Saw this the other night on VH1, had successfully put it out of my mind for years, total amateur hour. Not only did they pilfer from Gary Numan and Ultravox(and even Gary swiped from U-Vox, so it's kinda incestuous), but how much of a Euro-decadence vibe can you conjure up when you're from from Orange County? My synth-pop band in the midwest opened up for them in 1984, real stuck-up.
Almost all of the music from the ‘70s & ‘80s videos being posted in this thread are songs I listened to all the time when they were new, and still listen to occasionally now. 
If memory serves me, this was the first video they released with no make up.
If you can believe it, I have a VHS copy of this somewhere and my kids have seen it. I'd be perplexed how to explain it if they asked.

I'll say one thing. They don't appear to have strayed from their roots. I respect that, though, TBH, I am too scared to turn on the sound.
Ya know... I... ok. I’m 38. I’m missed all the early “heavy metal” stuff in the 70s and 80s and even before. And while I appreciate quite a lot of that stuff, KISS is a band I’ve just never understood. When you now older cats were younger, did this REALLY get your motor runnin, if you catch my drift? I mean... this is JUST AWFUL!!! Apart from the atrocious clothing that metal fans wore back in the day (I’ll never understand how wearing makeup and leopard print boots made you feel like a MAN) the music itself is laughably simple. The drums didn’t even sound like an actual kit was used. It’s hard for me to believe people bought into this garbage.

I'll give it a crack. Don't shred me, this is just one man's recollection.
I think this is one of those things - if you weren't there you wouldn't understand. In fact, lots of people at that time despised them. But they were the first band to take all of the theatrical elements and put them together with a high energy rock n roll show. Bands like Alice Cooper, T-Rex and Bowie had some theatrics. But they were a bit abstract for most, I think - and a bit pop minded. Deep Purple and Black Sabbath had raw energy. But a little boring live if you weren't a big fan or stoned. Kiss put everything together at the right time in one huge in-your-face high energy package. It definitely wasn't about the art of music. It was an escape. It's hard to put into words, and if you ask 100 people you'll probably get 100 answers. What they are now is not what they were back when - but then, everything around them has changed and evolved, too. TBH, if I was in my 20s or 30s, I wouldn't get it either. You just kinda had to be there.
