Extended Range Bass Club Thread (Part 2)

I have a question for the 6 string bass players. What kind of music do you play with your 6'ers? I got my first 5 string bass back in December of '09 and I really like the extended lower range. I have never thought that I was the "kind of player" who would do justice to a 6 string bass, but lately I'm intrigued by them....and I don't know why.

For some reason I have this idea in my head that a 6 string bass would best serve those who are more into a solo type of playing...and I am NOT a solo type of player.

I play bass mostly with my proggy metal band. But i enjoy sitting around playing all different genres. Really trying to get into playing jazz stuff.

As for being a solo player if you play 6. You can be the exact same player you are on a 4/5/6/7. Dont matter, its still the same instrument, just a wider neck and some more notes. And some more options for playing things in different positions.

That's actually a picture from the builder. He does that for nearly all of the basses that he builds.

Oh cool, thanks, I didn't expect to enter the club. So I quickly took a photo of my 6 string bass, an Ibanez BTB676. It's in a very strange piccolo tuning I designed that lets me play the quartertone scale (I have a document explaining the tuning to share). More of an extended tonality bass. 3 plain strings and the lowest is a .045

That's your intuition letting you should get a 6 string. You could always tune one F#BEADG if you're not interested in using the higher notes. Follow your intuition!
