Extremely low frequency cabinets / drivers? 20hz?

Have you talked to Skip Fantry any time recently? He's been working on some things, and Duke from AudioKinesis was hanging with him at the last Seattle GTG and brainstorming a few ideas too. Somewhere in the AK megathread there's some talk about that.

Just sent him an email for the first time in years, time for new strings, too. :) (They're not worn out, but aren't a matched set.)

Yeah, I know, been through all that before, just haven't paid attention for the last 10 years, just want to get caught up and see what's new.

Not much out there for this in the instrument specific world. The EDM guys of the internet might have more but a stadium subwoofer may be overkill for you.
Most people can't even hear 20 Hz, that's sort if if you have excellent hearing, and I don't think I 100% buy into the percieve over hearing way of thinking.

I was in a couple bands that had Earthquakes in the PA ... kinda useless in most clubs , but they sounded great about 1 block away ... since all the folks that lived there where always calling the cops ..!!

the old Sunn folded horn bass cabs worked pretty good ... didn't have as far of a 'throw' as the Earthquakes .. !! ... the length of those deep frequency standing waves make them really hard to take advantage of if you're close to them ... making long throw speakers for the back of the room and one of those tactile stand on subs for your own entertainment ..!!??

Commercial folded horns don't go that low including the CV Earthquake which has a -10 dB of 35 Hz. FWIW that Pyle driver is BS. Sure its resonant frequency is 22 Hz but if you look at the rest of the specs it stops making much noise in the 40's. IME, you can only expect to get a -10 dB of 30 Hz without some very exotic technology that goes beyond an LFD in a box.

I don't know where to find the pic, but some of you will know it, and maybe one of you will post it. There's this b/w pic of a cab with a driver in it that must be 48" or so. I never have read anything about it, though, just seen the pic. I wonder what kind of thump that bad boy had. Anybody know what i'm talking about?

Diatone was a loudspeaker division of Mitsubishi Electric. The first ones were built in Spring of 1945 for the Japanese radio station NHK; the division closed in 1999.

^^ (s-bigbottom) yeah that. Is there any info floating around on what that could (or couldn't) do? I've always wondered if it was just a gimmick or if it was a POS that looked impressive, or whether it really thumped like you'd imagine.

Wow. 8Hz. Even if it were really inefficient, with a 3000 watt input you could probably damage mortar joints. I wonder what the compliment was! A 36" "midsub" to handle 8-20Hz, and a "hisub" to handle 20-60Hz? :D Seriously. WTH would this actually be used for? Was it for seismic testing? Movie theaters? ......? I'd still hit it. Wouldn't hear it, but i'd hit it.
