This is sounding really good for a mildly gritty, full, tube-like tone....
Last week my Barbershop ME started behaving strangely during headphone practice. I clicked it on as I always do (it's an always on pedal for me) and it completely cut out the sound, though the light was on. Clicked again and it worked fine. I tried the 3 pos selector switch and the middle setting (the one I most use) was dead. I turned it off and tried again, now it's doing the same at every position, though intermittently...it's not just acting up in the middle. It will do the same thing (cut in/out) no matter where the switch is set. I initially changed out what I thought was a bad cable and brought it to my NYE gig crossing my fingers, but it crapped out mid set. So basically it's powering up (with a very loud POP), but that's it. Something tells me it's something to do with the switch, but I'm just guessing.
I sent an email to FF a
couple days ago and am awaiting a reply, but couldn't find any info on the process of sending it out for repair on either the website or the manual. Has anyone else experienced a failure such as this and is there anyone stateside that is qualified to diagnose and repair this little box? This is the first issue I've had with any of their stuff. I did pop it open to see if there were any loose solder points or exploded little caps, but all looked fine (I can post a pic).
I power it mainly with a One Spot and is last on my board, followed by a Korg Pitchblack and Keeley Bassist.

I too had some funny stuff happen with my BS...it turns on, stutters for a bit, fades in/out/ in...and operates normally after a little while.
Any idea whet this might be all about?
I just exchanged the cables connecting it and it happened again earlier today.

Okay, I'm back in again. Took some time off and still love the 3leaf PWNZOR and the Hudson Broadcast, but I felt it was time for some Fairfield again. And boy are these two awesome.

I looked for years for an overdrive that sounded like tubes just on the verge of breaking up. Never did find it until I tried The Accountant. It took some playing around with the switches and it's different for each of my basses, but when it's right, it's perfect. Sounds just like a tube amp on the edge of breakup.

Yes, the grit is wonderful. On guitar I also love the heavy setting, which sounds like it actually sucks the air out of the room. In lower modes it just makes everything nice. Awesome little box.
And maybe another quick question to all of you Barbershop users out there. My new Barbershop confuses me. Maybe it's because I'm currently tied to the low volumes of my living room, but I have the impression that while reducing the Sag (i.e. turning it counterclockwise) makes the pedal a little quieter, but also less gainy. From my last Barbershop I had the impression that the sound should get somehow dirtier. What do you say? (Maybe I just need to test it at higher volumes/dig in more).
