FAKE SPECTOR ON EBAY !

ive played a couple of astounding "Fibsons" and i mean astounding!!1 its pained me to walk away from at least 2 of em for the sake of morality
if that is really a fake spector then i want it ... but its hard to roll the dice with 500.00 bucks . ...

I really don't see a huge problem with the listing. He is not trying to pass is off as a Spector. It is a little bit of a problem to me that it is such an exact copy of a Spector and what are the chances he's "made that in his workshop". The big problem/question is whether or not you are going to get the guitar pictured .
What I think is funny is that Spector already has legit licensed product coming from China. It's actually not bad for the money. So would one rather buy something licensed and backed by Spector or take a shot on a house brand, copy? Each to his own.
I agree. The seller isn't claiming it is a Spector, nor that it is similar to or as good as a Spector. As long as the bass in the picture is the one that is for sale, I don't have a problem with it.

The build quality in that picture looks more comparable to a Euro or USA series bass than a Legend (NECK-THRU!). For the price, it's really almost worth it to give it a shot. At worst, you end up with a Spector Legend quality bass that has a neck-thru and, ipso-facto, balances better than a bolt-on Legend.
Shoot, if I had $500 and it had 6 strings, I'd click "buy it now" with no hesitations.

That photo is 100% a Spector and not whatever he claims that he built. The two big give aways (besides the logo on the headstock) are the branded Spector bridge, and that he says "The pickups are high-quality (from Korea) and sound awesome."...although they are clearly EMG humbuckers. Your honor, I rest my case.
Like I said, each to his own. I could see it being tempting. Who knows, maybe this could be the next best thing to hit the budget bass market since Rondo started the SX craze. On the other hand, most folks don't want to be the first ones to test if it's gonna be a boon or a bust. It's probably worth keeping an eye on for awhile to see what happens, cause sooner later, some one's gonna buy it.

I would really be interested in a Golden Gear bass.
But this looks fishy.
I could end up with a fake Golden Gear bass delivered... a fake made by Spector with the Golden Gear price tag. yuk
Actually the bass looks very nice. Might be worth the risk.
What this comes down to is business ethics. Nothing wrong with the instrument for sale, the seller is not trying to scam potential buyers.
The only one this is hurting is Spector. And I understand that you would feel outraged as a Spector employee or a real fan of Spector basses.
If you are a real fan of Spector, support them by buying a real Spector.
You can't stop these kind of practice of factories producing unauthorized copies.
In fact, sometimes they can help getting the real brand good business.
Someone who buys this copy, and has good experiences with this bass might consider a the real thing as his next bass.

You're basing your case on markings printed/stamped on the surface? That is far easier to fake than any of the rest of it.

The angle on the tuners seems a bit wonky.
His feedback indicates people think the items are decent, but need new tuners and strings. Overall it sounds like it's probably fairly priced. Also, comparing the original post, it looks a lot like the Spector Euro-5, but the Spectors all have four knobs, this one has 3. Sure looks like a copy to me.

I'm a real Spector fan, but my tastes change too often for me to spend over $1000 on basses anymore.
Still, I do rate their basses way up there in playability and tone.

This is true. I bet it's set up as a VVT wiring. That right there would be a sure-fire giveaway that it's a copy IMO.

Just to be clear: I hope everyone realises the first part of my post was sarcastic and for irony.
I have no reason to believe that the Ebay seller put up pics of a real Spector. Until proven otherwise.
Seller is honest, and discloses everything about the product. No scam.
The only issue here is copying products and stamping of a brand name that doesn't belong to the builder.
I have nothing against Spectors.
I played a couple, and thought they were really nice.
And they are worth their price IMO.
(Also helps that I can afford the more expensive gear, if only I was worth it.
)But as great as Spectors are, they weren't my cup of tea.
But if I would have to get a bass like this, I'd rather buy a real Spector rather than a copy. (unless I get scammed)
That just personal morals. I will not judge people who buy copies... even blatant copies.
I see no problem with this ebay seller. He is honest about his products.
And he is in China so he can do as he wish. All the best to this factory and their customers, but when it comes down to me I would take my business to Spector.
The average annual salary in Shanghai is all of around $3,000. The cost of living and goods in China is MUCH lower than here, so he can make a lot of money selling instruments for that amount. Chances are the parts on the bass are of poor quality, but those can be replaced. If the workmanship is good, it's still a good deal.
There are plenty of 3 knob Spectors out there on the American versions. The one pictured has a stacked knob.
I highly doubt even a Chinese knockoff can do those abolne inlays for under $400. Go over to Jemsite or the Gibson forums and see what they say about these Chinese knockoffs.
Oh, and to find out if this is really the bass you're getting, simply ask for more pics. Be specific and see if you get them.
