Yea, I gotta agree with the man. If your woods are quality like you say, just make your own bass shape and brand name. Put some elctronics and hardware on them, then raise the price a little so you can break even on the electronics/hardware expense. The basses would still sell for like $500, which is darn cheap for a handmade bass. I don't understand why you are not doing this.

:bassist: do you want me to quote your email here to all see coming from your own words that KSD's are made in Korea? using cheap labor, may be children? or women paid a penny per day, to see your KEN SMITH DESIGN and pay thousands of dollars for something that cost the most US$20 bucks to make?? :bassist:

Well, if they are made by children then that is Brooklen Gear's fault, NOT Ken Smiths fault.

I have nothing to do with making or selling the KSD Basses!!

Nothing is $20 anywhere in the world that I know of Bass wise. They sell for under $1,000. as well. I know the people from the factory and it is 100% a professional shop.

For the price you charge, I would be curious myself.

Now, go make a name for yourself and be original. Children should not play at night so please, act your age!

i think the point he was making was that he did some design work for the KSD's but they are not manufatured by him or his company.

*** oops, ya beat me to it.

:bassist: Ken, you are so affraid that i am selling more basses that look like yours, but are not sold like the original, that not even your emails bad mouting me are working, because people are curious and why pay 5k for your bass when they can have a similar bass that is sold as the style of a name brand for a fraction of the price and when they finish the bass, they love the sound of them...... :bassist:

Keep dreaming...

Your childish verbal attacks on me are not impressing the TBers here. Go back and read all that was said about you by the other members. I was going easy on you most of the time.

I mostly warned Ebayers after they contacted me about your Fakes. Some thought from the Ad that I was involved. I did what was needed to let them know the truth. I don't care what you make or sell, just take my name off your advertisments, PERIOD

This is borderline racist nonsense. *South* Korea is one of the most modern, industrialized nations in the world. They're certainly not running sweatshops over there.

You are not very bright to imply that KSD's are made in sweatshops. Also, I'm pretty sure that Ken Smith is not afraid of you outselling him. They re KEN SMITH BASSES for God sakes. And if you keep ripping off other builders, you will never build a good name for yourself, like Ken Smith.

This thread has taken a turn for the stranger...

Even in the album link for these basses there's no 'Ken Smith Style'. It lists as a KEN SMITH.

Quit trying to take credit for Ken's hard work and the name he's built. Quit trying to childishly insult Ken and quit trying to suggest that he is immoral for his (minimal) connection to KSD.

And while you're trying to make Ken out as a jerk, those of us in the 'Bass Community' know that Ken is gruff, but a gentleman.

Oh yeah...and Commercial User Agreement violation reported.

that was absolutley uncalled for, i am part korean and that was offensive. Korea is a technically advanced industrial area and the KSD are surely not made in "sweatshops"

ya know, i really don't have any problem with the guy copying these designs. my beef is with the guys attitude and total disregard for the fact that he is possibly tarnishing the hard earned reputations of more established builders. copies are a part of the business, but you don't the word fender anywhere on sadowsky's site.

Yeah, I am sure he is afraid, just like you are afraid to be creative and make a design of your own. Like others have said, if you did that you might have a decent product.

Ken, a little off topic, but I saw your tour on PCN a few years ago. I really enjoyed it. :hyper:

Thx, but in a way, it is ON topic as my name in this business has been seen and heard on most TV sets in the state of Pa. If I was in the business of making copies like the subject of this thread, I would never have been visited by PCN!

PCN = Pennsylvania Tour Network. The PCN channel is also the source for local politics like the Pa. version of CNN. They alternate tours of many impressive businesses native to Pa.

+1 If you got rid of all the products in your house that were made in Korea or by a Korean-owned company, there would probably be fair number of things missing.

BTW, Luchi, it wouldn't take much to make these original designs either. I mean you could lop that little point off the bodies, you know, behind the bridge; reshape the headstock a bit and you've essentially taken away the major Smith style points. And sell it as your own. We have a market economy, if you can produce a good product then it will sell. Unfortunately, by irking Mr. Smith and attacking Koreans, you've probably alienated a great deal of you market.

Um, in all fairness Mr. Luchi Luthier, you DID NOT have the word "style" in your postings. You intimated that they were the real deal, and that's the reason for the initial anger. I offer exhibit A:

luchi, you've been warned. that was generous. not only have you trolled this thread, but you have violated the commercial user agreement in every post.

you will not be warned again. any subsequent violations of the agreement or the usage agreement will result in your ip being banned.

Luchi,
You simply, in my book, lack respect, class, and morals. Not only have you demonstrated a complete lack of integrity on your part by completely attempting to copy someone else's intellectual property, you have succeeded in "shi**ing where you eat".

There are many new luthiers out there who have taken some design cues from the greats, but you are not even attempting to do anything but try to take the money out of people's mouths who created these designs to begin with!

Not that the people who would buy your green chunks of hackery would buy a real Ken Smith, but it cheapens the quality of the real thing having a sub-standard version floating around out there.

TB, although not the entire market, is a sizable percentage of the people who buy high end basses. I for one, will not patronize your business, as I'm sure most of those who are following this thread.
You have no class, pal...no class.
