Fakin' it - All the way from China......

After reading 12 pages of this thread, I find it kind of funny. Really the only thing that is a major sticking point to this is a name. Granted it is wrong and I am sure at some point, it will be figured out and corrected. Also, Music Man's 3+1 headstock and I am sure there are more. However, Ibanez did it, Hondo did it, Teisco did it (not name wise) even Rondo music did it. All put out way to close copies and all got sued and shut down the production of said models. This has been going on since the 60's "Lawsuit" items of all sorts. Rondo even had to publish a letter about their copies of the Music Man basses.
Again, some will quietly buy one to check them out and it is obvious to most of us that these chinese "copies" are fakes.

And again. Until it sinks in. Thank our public servants in the Gov't for that.
So, since this TradeTang sells OLP, where they the makers of them? Could this be the company? From what I am seeing is this is not just one company, yes? I think it is many companies doing business through 1 "distributor" type thing? I don't know?

In the interest of playing devil's advocate, how do we know that SX is not? Or more directly - how do we know that the factory that produces their product is also not producing counterfeits? Pure curiosity here, b/c these instruments are obviously coming out of fully function production facilities - or it seems they are to me.
Why don't we ask these people if they care???? It is easy to say-stick it to the man, screw the corporate fat cats. Lets put a face to the real people that get hurt.

If Gibson went after some kid or one of us for buying one, what would it prove???
Other than to divide more people into two camps- one side he derserved it.
The other being that big corporate guys went after an individule singular person- little guy, who more than likely couldn't afford one anyway- how aweful of them.
Is it right to buy them?? IMO not at all.
Feel the same way about putting headstock decals on basses to say Fender or whatever.
Unfortunately, we all support people who do things we don't agree with. It is just too much for us to research every manufacturer and his suppliers, and his suppliers, etc... If I buy shampoo I am probably contributing to the communist party somewhere along the line and have no idea.
All I can do is avoid the guys standing in the middle of the street with a big "I'm a Crook" sign around their necks.
Oh, except I still have to pay my taxes.
Good post. One has to wonder where the other manufactures are? Why isn't there anything from Ric or MM?
I don't think that ripping off people is necessarily "common practice" in Chinese culture - you are basically condemning an entire country based on the acts of a nefarious few (comparatively to the population of China as a whole). That is the same as saying b/c there are Muslim terrorists, the entire Muslim faith is a terroristic religion. I am sure there are some TB'ers w/Chinese heritage who would certainly take offense to that statement.
Now if you said there is a segment of the Chinese industry that has no problem counterfeiting a whole mess of different products and passing them off as the real deal, then I would say: "nail on the head".
The last poll I saw was of middle management. There was a big thread about it last winter. A lot of members that know people that work in the manufacturing part say they love their jobs. The turn over rate for workers is very low, not so for mid management. I have been to two of the factory's. At the Memphis plant I had a chance to hang around during a lunch break and BS with some of the guys, they enjoyed their jobs. A company that has happy workers and unhappy mid management is doing the right thing in my book.

You are probably right. But I would still love to know if the companies who hold the licensing agreements with American companies to produce the second tier products (i.e. Squier, Epi, etc) are also producing counterfeits - or some similar situation. I would love to see a comparison between say a "Gibsun Les Paul" and an Epi Les Paul.
