Chris Cagle was my first "big to me show" and I remember being so nerved up and was afraid if I tried to take a step I would just fall right over! it was halfway through the second song before I trusted my legs enough to start moving around and getting into the music.

Jackyl really impressed me, they came onstage and just killed it, they put on an amazing show and sounded great.

Edger Winter was another one that played his heart out and owned the stage.

David Allen Coe has the most hardcore fans....They are some drinking, fighting, rowdy, crazy B@$^@ds and they are a tough crowd. I remember feeling like we had to win them over after every song, it's a good thing we played well that night, if we sucked I think we would have gotten lynched.

I had a chance to talk with his Bassist before the show and I was asking him what material they might be doing, and if they were going to do anything from the Rebel Meets Rebel collaboration with Dimebag Derrell. He told me "I know the first song were going to play after that it's chase the rabbit, Mr. Coe will play what he wants and you better keep up!"

Coe has one of Derrell's guitars, it was a Dean that had a rebel flag finish that he would use for some songs. It was set up on the side of the stage in a stand while we were playing. I thought it was pretty cool to share the stage with Derrell's guitar.

Back in the day I was playing in a local Zydeco band, and we did a preshow for Flaco Jimenez, somewhere in the Dutch countryside. He was so drunk he had to practically be carried onto stage and played on autopilot the first half hour swaying back and forth. Then he kicked in for real. Was great and people loved it.

Playing a gig in a club outside Minneapolis like 13 years ago (Olgas?). Middle slot of 3 bands. While we're on stage, manager asks us to cut our set 15 mins early AND asks us to leave our gear on stage!! We're like, what the heck? He says that there's a surprise guest in the house.

We get off, go into the audience and they announce that Toto is at the bar and will now play a set. Yes, the entire band went up and played with our gear. They opened with the Allmans version of One Way Out and then did all of their Toto hits. It was crazy!

Hold the line...love isn't always on time....

Wow, I haven't thought of Walt Mink in years. I went to Macalester ('95). We opened up for them in front of the student union (can't remember the name of the building, I burned those brain cells before I graduated).

My drummer also opened for Vanilla Ice too when he decided to jump on the nu-metal bandwagon...twice, actually. One time, my drummer's band had to provide backline for the headliner, and Ice's tour manager had to write out my drummer a check because Ice's drummer destroyed his heads and cymbal stands. :rolleyes: Actually, my drummer opened for a ton of nationals - everyone from Clutch to Fuel. Breaking Bejamin used to actually open for him (and my drummer's old guitar player used to tune Ben Burnley's guitar for him because Ben didn't know how to tune his own guitar :eek:). My drummer said every national he opened for or shared a bill with was cool with the exception of...Kansas. :eyebrow: He said they were bitter old men.

I have a friend and a former drummer who was set to open for Hanson a few years back, but the band went defunct before the gig. Apparently Hanson is a really well-respected indie band nowadays, but they're not too good to still play Mmmm Bop. For some strange reason, I really respect that.

As far as me, when it comes to bands on the national scene, I've shared the bill with Halestorm and Candlelight Red. It's probably obvious with this post that I'm from Pennsylvania. Candlelight's former bass player is actually my tattooist.

Jane's Addiction, Paul Rodgers, Killing Joke, Ronny Jordan, Fugazi, Heart, Gary Hoey, Junior Wells, Tinsley Ellis, David Allen Coe, Winger, Marshall Tucker Band, Scandal, Foghat, KC & The Sunshine Band, Koko Taylor are all I can think of now.

(The Smashing Pumpkins opened for us twice (?!) a very long time ago.)
