With various groups:

opened and was actual backup band for Bo Diddley
opened for Wall of Voodoo (Mexican Radio)
Georgia Satellites actually opened for a band I was in about two weeks before they hit it big
A band called the Breakfast Club opened up for my band, and according to timeline Madonna was in the band on drums at that point, although I don't recall seeing her that day
I put together a band with my son in 2009 and our second show was opening for Missing Persons.

Never toured with a major act though

I played in a punk band in high school in 80 - 81. We were called Citizen Fear and Social Distortion opened for us at a party in Anaheim.

Hey, that's my era and neighborhood! Wasn't playing then, but I recal we ALMOST had Black Flag play a lunchtime or after school concert at my high school. They were going incognito under another name, but when the school admin caught wind of who they really were, that was the end of that.

Sorry for the hijack, we now return you to your regularly scheduled thread...

Wow, really cool lists over here!

My list of memorable opening shows doens't even remotely comes close to all this, but my band is opening for the younger brother of Johnny Cash in a month, Mr. Tommy Cash.

If anyone is interested, you'll have to travel to Eindhoven, Netherlands :bassist:.

I didn't even know he had a younger brother...

I played a show with Free Ride. They are not famous by any means and are not signed but they are very well known in southern Manitoba, Canada. They play 3 different sets, one with all Beatles covers, a 70s set and a 50s set. They even use the appropriate instruments for each set(Hofner Violin Bass for Beatles, P-Bass for 50s). They played the 50s and Beatles sets and we played in between the 2.
