Favorite bass for 3 hour gig?

As the title says. You have a nice long gig and can only bring one bass. What's the best one you've found in terms of weight, balance, and playability? You play the gig and you don't have any majorly sore parts.


For me, I haven't owned that many basses, but my American Jazz 4 string.

Spector with the NS carved body. My NS-5 weighs nothing, and that body is just pure bliss!

I used to use my 98 stingray from 9pm to 2am for 3 or 4 nights a week. It wasn't to bad, but I was 21 then and nothing ever ached.

For a 4... P/J bass P with a maple board and thin neck with a 1.625" nut width- Think a Squier CV P neck. Or an American special. Preferably 8.5-9 lbs.

For a 5, a sub 10 lb Bongo 5. Lots of versatility, in Sapphire Black w/ black pearl P/G

I try to stay away from more than 5 strings.

Overall, I think my Squier CV P takes the cake.

I'd play my Lakland Duck Dunn, but if I develop back problems and can't hoist my blue line up on my berg, I'll probably be grabbing my Dearmond/Guild Starfire as well.

My GFS body, fender parts P. Super light, balance is terrible, but it's light and sounds great for every song we play without major tweaks to EQ.

For short gigs I still prefer my Schecter for standard tuning and having the P on a stand for the drop D tunes.

Three hours is a pretty easy gig. These days I sometimes do 4hr "power trio" blues gigs with a single 20 or 25 minute break. It's tough to complain when the band leader is singing and playing guitar AND he's up into his 60's. I just shut-up and play.

4 hour bar gigs are not uncommon. Good balance, moderate weight, neck size and fret spacing that work for you.
And as my drummer buddy recently said. Remember to breathe grasshopper. If you look in front of you or behind you you miss all the magic that is now.
A couple three beers plus the breathing part works pretty good for me.

Hmm.. Right now, I'm GASsing for an MIA Deluxe Jazz V. With a good strap, I think that would be it. I'd string it with D'Addario Chromes, and, with the 3-band EQ and active/passive switch, I'd be set for almost every gig
