There's a lot of Gilmour love in here, but I don't see the one I prefer.

IMO, the solos in Comfortably Numb are quintessentially perfect. The right notes, the right feel, the right time to not play...everything about those solos enhance the song. They don't take away, they're not over the top, they just take the foundation and make a castle. I've heard cooler solos, faster solos, sadder solos, cockier solos, but I've never heard a solo that embodies the whole song as much as this.

+1 on all the Gilmour solos - they are perfection in rock guitar.

No super technical from a household name, but Jimmy Lyon's solo at the end of Eddie Money's "So Good To Be In Love Again" always gives me goosebumps for some reason.

Dude! I think Ronni LeTekro of TNT has the biggest collection of awesome solos and riffs. What a great vocalist Harrell was/is. I saw them in a 100 or so person capacity club in 1989, had to sneak in underaged!

All of you put up a bunch of good one. I love these list threads especially when I'm introduced to deeper stuff I've nervous heard.

My fave solos:
Kid Charlamagne- Steely Dan

Michael Shenker on I'm A Loser live on Strangers in the Night. Solo at about 2:35. SOARING. Love when it comes back in around 3:40, the call and response killed me when I first heard it only 6 years ago.



Randy Rhodes outro on Ozzy's Mr Crowley. Also on Tonight.

I'll be back tomorrow with Rod Stewart and Ohio Players, at least.

Props to the guy who added the Dress You Up by Madonna! Buried gold!

I tried to pick a great solo by Stevie but pretty much all the Stevie on Youtube just shows what a superior talent the guy was....hard to pick a favorite one.
So many great guitar players who've done amazing solos...Jimi, Stevie, Beck, Page, David Gilmour, Billy Gibbons, Mick Taylor, Steve Howe, Duanne Allman, Van Halen, Santana, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Prince, Martin Barre, John Frusciante, Randy Rhodes....the list goes on and on.
And then there is the list of most memorable riffs/hooks.
Best all around guitar players, best blues players, best progressive guitar, best metal guys, etc, etc.
