i'll start with Terry Kath's solo on 25 or 6 to 4

Yeah, Terry Kath was a really good player * and I think Chicago really felt his loss and went somewhat downhill without him (despite numerous schmaltzy hits following his demise), IMHO.

Here's a solo (and song) that I really like. For those of you who don't know Kingfish, they ware a Grateful Dead spinoff band that included Bob Weir on guitar/vocals and Dave Torbert (of New Riders of the Purple Sage fame) on bass/vocals. Robbie Hoddinott, their lead guitar player definitely channeled Jerry Garcia to a degree, but was a fine, fine, super fine guitar player in his own right who could really make a Telecaster sing, IMHO ...



* And a very underrated one as well. Legend has it that Jimi Hendrix was blown away by him after seeing him perform with Chicago at the Whisky a Go Go in L.A. back in 1968.

Dead fan here. and through many hours of obsessing over tapes, my favorite solo from Jerry is Brown-Eyed women from Cornell 1977. I much prefer 1968-1974 but this solo puts a chill down my spine everytime. he just hangs a few notes out there that blow me away! so many more but this one has stuck with me since the first time i heard this show.

Im not a dead fan. in fact im probably on the other end of the spectrum. But this is very good. Recording quality is spot on and Lesh is nice in the mix.

Baker Street, I think because of the over the top lead sax line, gets relegated to being some sort of novelty. People forget that it's a super cool tune with great production and great lyrics which culminates in a beautiful melodic guitar solo at 3:29.

But my all time favorite is probably Dick Wagner and Steve Hunters monster solo on " Sweet Jane".
