Two of my favorites are:
Eric Johnson, "Cliffs of Dover" Yes, EJ shows off his fretboard abilities, but I LOVE this song for that beautiful melodic hook, and EJ's unique 'violin' tone.


Frank Zappa, "Watermelon in Easter Hay". Skip ahead to 1:00 to miss the "Central Scrutinizer" narration (which contains curse words, by the way) Beautiful, haunting melody, and apparently it's played in an odd-meter time signature. For me, it just drips with emotion and beauty.

Dude! I think Ronni LeTekro of TNT has the biggest collection of awesome solos and riffs. What a great vocalist Harrell was/is. I saw them in a 100 or so person capacity club in 1989, had to sneak in underaged!

All of you put up a bunch of good one. I love these list threads especially when I'm introduced to deeper stuff I've nervous heard.

My fave solos:
Kid Charlamagne- Steely Dan

Michael Shenker on I'm A Loser live on Strangers in the Night. Solo at about 2:35. SOARING. Love when it comes back in around 3:40, the call and response killed me when I first heard it only 6 years ago.



Randy Rhodes outro on Ozzy's Mr Crowley. Also on Tonight.

AMEN on I'm A Loser. Strangers In The Night is a CD of some of the most EPIC guitaring of all time. EVERY single track!!
