I'm greatly enjoying my Doug Wimbish DWB3. Very versatile, some really workable tones, nice looker, great weight. I couldnt recommend it more!

I have a old SR 505 that is the best sounding 5 string that I have played so far, of any make! And yes I have played my share of high end bankbreakers. I also have a 84 destroyer, and a 82 blaze that only cost me around $200 each and they're as good as any new MIA fender that I've seen.
I've owned an Ibanez SR305DX (Korea) and BTB515 (Japan). The SR didn't have the greatest features but it did sound better than the BTB 515. The The BTB may have had more features but the pickups were afwul and the frets were done poorly as the action had to be really high w/constant trus-rod adjustments and the B was still flopy w/ the 35" scale neck. I tune down to A and the SR could handle it fine, the BTB not so well. I think I got a lemon with the BTB's neck but the poickups and electronics of the BTB are bad. The quality of that bass comming from Japan wasn't that good either. I actually encounted 2 of them, both bad. But the quality of Ibanez is good. The local Ibanez shop dealer is always bringing in good stuff. I'm currently looking to get a new 5 and Ibanez is up there in my choices.

BI66ER, how old or new was the BTB that you played? Ive played several and havent had any complaints about their sound. And all the newer ones have pickups and electronics all made by Bartolini, so they should be pretty good. Just curious on why they sounded so bad.

I did Funkster's Ibanez...but I haven't been a fan of Ibanez after my SR-885. I hated it.
BUT! I did try out an SR406 the other day, and I managed to dial in a near Jaco tone...
Or is it in the hands?

I've owned 3 Ibanez in my life. An SR400, EDA905, and an SRX705. I like the EDA best by far and will be getting a 4-string one as soon as I can. They rule with flats.
Old school 2 pick up Ergodine, awesome bass. awesome.
Easy to play fat sound and looks amazing. It my main bass and whenever it is out of action at a show (a rare event but it happened a week ago) i really miss it. Easyest bass to play i have ever laid hands on.

Does anybody have, or know where to find, photos of the Ibanez Bean bass? I'm almost positive I had a black one of these in the mid 80's, but I always called it "the shark-fin" bass. It was passive, 2+2 hs, and I think had reverse-P and J pu's. I might have just had the reverse-P.
