Favorite stand up comedian

I'm a sucker for the off colour and the "before they ""Made it"" comedians.
DIce Man Cometh was a gut buster. It was unapologetic and in your face. This show along might have spawned cancel culture. As Steve Martin rightly said, comedy is not pretty.
Time Allen had 2 back to back bangers. Then made a TV series based on the bits. I dig both shows.
Stephen Lynch is a killer musical comedian. No topic off limits and super good at crafting the songs.
Paula Poundstone was weird. Funny, and weird.
Margaret Cho was an assassin.

Saw Al Madrigal again last week. Dude's still hilarious. And SF native. Great for Xmas shows. Josh Johnson sold out waaaaaaay earlier than I thought so nothing on the comedy schedule for now. Will miss Joe List over Valentine's Day weekend but he's on tour so see him if you can.
He did an episode of Jim Jefferies' old podcast. The show had a different expert in a given field each week and they'd do an interview. Jay was there for cars. He was hilarious. He's so quick. It's worth a listen. All the comedians I like are funniest in a radio show/podcast setting.

I don’t watch nearly enough standup to have a strong opinion about who my “favorite” is — though it’s pretty hard to argue with George Carlin — but I will say that the two most *memorable* moments in standup comedy I’ve ever seen were
- Margaret Cho describing her mother finding a gay porn magazine called “Assmasters”
- Elayne Boosler’s two-sentence take about the instructions on a can of Campbell’s Soup-For-One
I can make myself laugh uncontrollably just by recalling either of those!
I really liked George Carlin in my youth, but after a couple decades of occasionally hearing a quick quote from him, I watched one of his HBO specials. It was heartbreaking to see such a comic genius reduced to a curmudgeonly old man rambling through an hours ranting at whatever came to mind. What used to be thought provoking comedic views on weighty subjects, had become a cynical puking of bile on random topics. The only through line was “(insert object of ire) SUCKS!!!”.
Carlin was great, brilliant, like Stephen Wright. So many of the greats just would not be playable now. These days I like the ones that are intelligent without being insulting. Let me think of one..................
Carlin's and Pryor shows were very consistent
But maybe not as consistent but most memorable shows in their peak for me was Sam Kinison and Lewis Black

IIRC, they usually told their jokes while standing up.They aren't standup, but the Marx Brothers are great
