If Martians fell from the sky
What would that do to god?
Would we put the weapons down
Or aim it up at the sky

No one would believe it
Except the f***ing nut jobs
They laugh and cry we told you so

Baby when I get home
I want to believe in Jesus
Hammer in the final nail
Help me pick up the pieces

Did did did did you ever wonder why we had to run for shelter when the promise of a brave new world unfurled benethe the clear blue sky. - Pink Floyd, Goodby Blue Sky

The ones who love us best are the ones we'll lay to rest
And visit their graves on holidays at best
The ones who love us least are the ones we'll die to please
If it's any consolation, I don't begin to understand them

The Replacements

This is the night
Of the expanding the man
I take one last drag
As I approach the stand
I cried when I wrote this song
Sue me if I play too long
This brother is free
I'll be what I want to be

Deacon Blues - Steely Dan

Nembutal numbs it all
But I prefer alcohol.

The Right Profile - The Clash

"Well that's the way I like it baby, I don't wanna live forever"

Lemmy.

"What if all of this is inside of your head, just creations of your own. Your devils an your gods, all the living and the dead, and you really are alone"

Right where it belongs - NIN

" I F*#ked your girlfriend last night. while you snored and drooled I F*#ked your love. She called me daddy and I called her baby, and I smacked her ass"

Good friends as a bottle of pills-Pantera

Don Van Vliet:

Light floats down day river on a red raft of blood
Night blocks out the heaven like a big black shiny bug
Its hard-soft shell shining white in one spot, well
It’s a hard place that I’m living but I’m doing well, well

----

A little up the road
a wooden candystriped barber pole
‘n above it read a sign, “Painless Parker”

----

Hey Garland, I dig your tweed coat
I’ll trade you a domino this size, mothball scented

----

You hardly know a day goes by
in the cardboard cutout sundown
The moon popped up like a gallery duck
sipped up gold from the sunny cup
and longhorns sawed the buggy grass
and a cowboy blew a harp
sitting on his chapped ass
and the prairie flowers didn’t look a bit queer
and the stars struck the sand,
cartwheeled and poked in the prairie
A cactus juice stand the only place
the crows couldn’t land
The bluebottle flies were as big
as the cowboy’s eyes
and their buzz was as loud as rattlers ...

A few leap to mind...

"Mongrels, who ain't got a penny, sniffing for tidbits like you..."

and a verse from a great John Hiatt song:

"There was a rattlesnake up on the road
So I ran him over and over until he died
Then his ghost rose up and curled around this fear I hold inside
He flew on off to heaven and I sat there in my instrument of death
I had think what I was doin'
I had to think just to draw another breath"

Or this chorus from the drive-by truckers:
"Mamas and grandmamas love you.
American boys hate to lose.
You never planned on the bombs in the sand
or sleeping in your dress blues."

Like a pocket full of coin she dreams
Picking up her days like thieves
She lives her life day to day
wondering if she'll find a way

Ruby liked to touch the sky
While on the ground she wondered why
Wondered where the money went
Wondered why she felt so spent

Often wondered why some flowers never grow

Ruby always had a smile
Passers-by would put her down
She lived her life on the street
Gave away her love for free

So why did Ruby have to die?
I wanted her to stay awhile
It's funny how the innocent
Set the pace for our consent

Often wondered why some flowers never grow

I wrote this song for Ruby's soul
God bless the day her spirit rose
Ruby there's a place for you
A place where you won't have to lose

Often wondered why some flowers never grow

(lyric from Ruby's Flowers by Will Calhoun)

"...And then she heads for the clinic and she gets some static walkin' through the door.
They call her a killer, and they call her a sinner, and they call her a whore
But god forbid you ever had to walk a mile in her shoes
'Cause then you really might know what it's like to have to choose..."

"... But of the racist institutions simple minds belong
Not happy just being human, no wish to get along
Little people need exclusions sucker groups to throng
It makes them feel special it makes them feel strong..."

Contained in everything I do
There's a love, I feel for you
Proclaimed in everything I write
You're the light
Burning, brightly
Onward through the night
Onward through the night
Onward through the night of my life

- Chris Squire, "Onward"

Incredibly beautiful song, an under-rated sleeper. When I was a wee 17-year-old who had just moved away from home and away from my very first girlfriend, that tune sounded like a condensation of the entire world.
