Fender 2018 MIM Player Series

Just received a Tidepool precision. Very nice bass. Do standard MIM pickguard fit this bass? Thanks.

Yes, a standard Fender 13 hole faceplate will work. Just make sure that it does not have the truss rod cutout since the Player does not need it.

The faceplate below is an Allparts PG-0750-033.

I bought a white one (P) a couple of weeks ago. I am enjoying it so far. I did a minor setup (it still needs an intonation tweak) put GHS Pressurewounds on it, which are my favorite P strings. It has a great neck and is very comfortable to play- I had to sell my rickenbacker recently because it became painful to play, I have developed some sort of repetitive stress injury in my right hand and the Rick became impossible to play without pain. But my P basses are fine and comfy, including this one. I have two gigs this weekend so will take it to both and see how it does. My usual bass is a Roadworn P that I love (see new avatar).

Nothing like a nice shiny black P bass with a black pickguard and a maple neck.

It’s ok if a pickguard *has* the truss rod access notch, but unlike a Classic or an American, it doesn’t need the notch.

How consistent are the necks on these? I tried one Pau ferro and one maple fingerboard model in the store and I think I felt a difference in the necks, preferring the Pau ferro one. Sounds unlikely but could the neck profile be different between the Pau ferro and the Maple one? Or maybe just inconsistency in production.

Anyhow I enjoyed playing the Pau ferro P bass!

I am super disappointed that they didn't make fretless options to include the sage green color. I had a older MIM Fretless Jazz in sage green with white pickup covers and white strat knobs, that was stolen from me in college and have been dying to get it back. Wishing there were more color options for the fretless......
You could always swap the neck out for a fretless and sell the original to recover some of the cost.

Givem time... If their is a market, they will makem!

It's funny. I went into the local GC several weeks ago and found a white Player's series P bass. It played really well right off the wall and I ended up buying it a few days later. I only made some minor tweaks to the action and string height. I've been gigging with it and like it very much. I was at GC today and they had a tort Player's P. I picked it up and plugged it in and it was virtually unplayable, the action was crazy high and it just seemed wrong. I put it down after a minute. The white one I couldn't put down, still can't. Wonder why the inconsistency?

perhaps the store had had a chance to setup the white one, but not tort one.. yet.

don’t worry. they’re all good.

I think that’s just how mass produced instruments are. I have an older MIM Standard P that has the most comfortable neck I’ve ever played. This Player P was already set up when I got it, but the fretboard has a sharper edge than my other one. I’m contemplating swapping necks.

With a little research and basic tools you can easily set up your bass the way you want it. Sharp frets are easy and can be sanded with a very fine nail file (the large multi sided one). I have found that even a perfectly setup instrument will need a little tweaking from time to time due to weather changes etc.

I was ashamed to share that nail file trick (idk why) but it really works for small filings. Protecting the fretboard with a tape should not be forgotten though

Probably you are right. But I don't think this GC does any setups on instruments out on the floor, I have seen too many with really bad action over the years.

PS This is a photo of me during a gig this past Sunday. Loved playing this bass. And it sounded great.
