Fender 60th Anniversary Precision Bass

On the subject and for modding, I have a SD 1/4 Pounder P pup sitting in a drawer that doesn't have a home. Would it be pointless or otherwise sacrilegious to put it in the 60th bass. The stock one seems pretty good to my ears so I don't want to mess with it if there's no advantage.
Or....uumm....I think I just answered my own question. Never mind.

I got my sunburst one used. The previous owner had swapped the original out for the Duncan SPB-1. On my blonde, I thought the original pickup was fine, and would have left it stock. But the SPB-1 is my favorite P-Bass pickup, so I'm very happy with it on my burst.

Oh, as far as changing yours out, I'd probably keep it stock unless you don't like it. Or if your curiosity just gets the best of you and the Quarter Pounder keeps calling to you from the drawer, "Try me, try me!!!" Not at all sacrilegious... ; )

Yeah, I like the stock pup just fine but I know my curiosity and motorcycle road racing, tinkering mind is going to send me down that path eventually. It's almost enevitable really. Maybe I'll just do it, post my thoughts and free up some thinking space in my brain for something else in the process. Besides, working on guitars (especially bass) is cathartic. Chicken soup for the soul.

Stock pickup sounds near perfect for the bass IMO. This is one bass I never felt the need to upgrade.

Bad things happened last week.
During rehearsal I saw that my upper pin-screw ist loose. I screwed it back in position, but the stock-screw didn't hold enough. So I took the Schaller screw that came with the security locks I use. It gave a bit more bite in the wood, but rotated also.
So I had a stripped out screw and my local bass repair guy is full. I decided to use a bit of glue an a toothpick, waited a night and broke it and replaced the screw carefully.
It holds, but how long.
I'm very sad to have such a repair with my just 2 year old beloved 60th P-Bass. :-(
Now I will look more often, if the pin is solid and will use a drop of WD40 on the pin of the Schaller security locks before playing. As I'm moving the bass a lot, the Schaller locks move a lot and tend to untighten the screw.
Maybe I will glue a shorter piece of toothpick just to the more worn-out first part of the screw-hole to give more stability, but for now I leave it with one toothpick.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the toothpick method. But when I do it, I put several pieces of toothpick in (not just one piece), then GENTLY tap them down. You want the hole filled as tightly as possible. Then just put your screw back in and it should hold for a long, long time. Not an indictment of the bass, either. Happens to almost all of them eventually. Just do the fix carefully and correctly and you're good to go.

Maybe I will install the stock Buttons, if the screw loosens again soon.
So far a drop of WD40 on the Schallers and maybe not that heavy posing all the time, keeping my bass in place before my belly. ;-)
So most basses will have loosened strap button screws from time to time, even newer basses? Didn't know, that it's a common issue and a known wear and tear on guitars.

I'm not generally a big fan of pickguards, but I think the PG is an essential part of the offbeat vibe of this particular bass -- especially the blonde. I wouldn't consider removing it even if it looked great without it.

I'm another person who thinks that the funky retro pickguard is part of the 60th P's visual vibe.

As for the deal with staplocks, I'm still using stock strap buttons, but I installed Fender "Strap Blocks" and leave the straps on.

I've been looking for something like this for my 60th because I don't want to go down the regular route of installing Dunlop straplocks. Too bad Grolsch doesn't do a limited run of bottles with black stoppers to match the color scheme of the Blonde :D.

I just use the neoprene washers from the hardware store on all my basses. While I do have a strap for each bass, these are cool because they do go on or off very easily, then immediately regain their natural shape. I've been using them for years. Even the guitar players in our band have started using them.

Hi guys, I tried a 60th today at my local store and I really liked it. So far I've tried an American Standard Jazz Bass, of which I loved the quality of the finish and how comfy it was, and a Lackland Bob Glaub, which I liked more than the Jazz in terms of sound, but still wasn't fully satisfied. After reading the first half of this thread and having tried the 60th I think it's what I was looking for.

The thing is, the store guy said he had bought it for himself but wasn't playing it much lately so he was willing to sell it for 1520€ which is almost 2100USD at today's rate. I live in Spain. I really like the bass but I find it a bit overpriced. It has been played very little, but the tone pot is a bit loose and it overturns a couple of millimetres. What do you guys think of the price? Cheers.

It is almost brand new. It still has the pickguard plastic. The only sign of use I noticed is the tone pot which is a bit loose, but that seems only a matter of tightening the screw. Other than that, the bass has been played for about a week. I know the price seems insulting for Americans, but I'd like to hear what guys this side of the Atlantic think. Maybe I'll manage to bring that price down about a hundred euros...
