Fender American Professional Series

For me the interesting news on the P-bass is in the pickup redesign. Alnico V on the treble side, Alnico II on the bass side. Also neck shape and tall narrow frets. These are differences which affect sound and playability IMO.
This may be a point although Fender should have explained which is the effect of this modification ....

Now that's just silly. The differences between the A5 and AII are going to be close to negligible within the same pickup, and that's assuming the folks on the production line install it correctly. Why not just use AII for the whole pickup? I had a Fralin AII P pup in my last AmStd that was probably the sweetest sounding pickup I ever used. Unfortunately, they're a rare beast that was only made a short while for RS guitar works and you'd have to custom spec it from Fralin now. I think AII would go a long way to counter the "harsh" sounding reputation that stock Fender MIA pups tend to have while not sacrificing any real output...I guess that's what they're going for? Just seems like a negative selling point to me for the purists.
