Fender Bassman 100T Chapter 3

my issue with the boost pedal turned out to be a bad instr. cable I was using at rehearsal. Being in there alone helped to hear some noise going on so I focused on that. Changed cable and wham! everything normal. Why it affected the boost the way it did is beyond me. So yes, cables do matter.

That's exactly why I was saying you gotta get under the hood and patch things in one at a time so you're verifying not just that the effect is good, but also the cable.

.

I've got a T.C. Electroncs Hall of Fame reverb unit hooked up to my 100T permanently. It adds a nice shimmer and better definition to my high end and give my bass tone added richness.

Well, that's odd. Not really practical for live, but if you're happy with how it sounds good in the practice room then cool.

I originally assumed you meant you were patching the reverb into the preamp loop of the 100T, and that's what I commented would be rather odd, and that it wouldn't work well for live. For recording or other low-level uses it might be a really cool sound, and that of course is up to you to say.
Sleeping on it, I realize you were probably talking about patching the verb after the D.I., or in a channel of a console, for recording purposes or whatever. And that of course would be the more 'conventional' way to add reverb to bass. I have one of the T.C. System 6000 mkII's that I use in mastering, and you could spend days playing around with adding tasty warmth to bass.

My Intermittent Bias Issue Has Returned on my 100T. I have been following some of the posts on this issue and I thought Fender was acknowledging the issue with the bias chip. But when I called Fender consumer relations the person I spoke with didn't really acknowledge this as an issue. I explained that I had 2A and 2B showing orange. He said this was an indication that those tubes had been shut down but I explained that they were still lighted and that the amp seemed to be functioning normally. I mentioned that the bias chip was a known issue and he finally said that this was possible and gave me the name of an authorized servicer in my area. So I wanted some thoughts on whether or not Fender is finally acknowledging thus issue? I hope I don't have an issue getting this repaired. Amp is a little over a year old, purchased August 2012. Bringing to the local authorized servicer tomorrow.

Looking back on what's been said before about Fender customer service, I think maybe sometimes you're talking to Fender people that actually know the products, and sometimes you're talking to outsourced customer care people who are working off of a script. For instance someone here early on in this thread called Fender with a problem that was not only expertly diagnosed but he was even sent a set of strings or some such thing by Fender. Then there's bad experiences like you had, and when I called them twice about the fan and got two completely different answers. So that would explain why they sometimes talk like something is common knowledge, and other times they seem to know nothing about it.

If I call any company's CS with a tech type problem. I can tell right away if the CS person either doesn't know an answer or is reading from a script. When that happens (often sadly too frequently), I'll politely ask to be transferred to upper level tech support. If they don't transfer or they ask to put me on hold while they ask someone else, I politely refuse as I prefer not to have a go between trying to fix a problem. I'll end the call. Then I call back later. Usually you will eventually get someone who knows about the problem and can help you.

IMO the bigger the company the more likely you will be talking to "lower" level CS when you call, and they will probably be reading from a script of FAQ's. YMMV

What really disappoints me is that Fender has a great product here, this is now one of the longer running threads and must have had some influence on promoting it, yet no-one from Fender will officially talk to us or support us on this forum. Some other companies input when necessary to support or reassure their clients, I just wish Fender would do the same. It must be a conscious decision on their part for whatever reason, I suppose. That notwithstanding both new Fender tube amps remain superb examples of a mix of new and old technology and the sooner this bias issue is finally put to rest the better it will be for them and their loyal users. I must say that my experiences of dealing dealing directly with the Fender agents here (Direct Imports) and indirectly through them with Fender USA have been excellent - they respond quickly and issues are given priority and sorted promptly.

Played first gig with 100T and Bassman neo410 last night.
Soundguy didn't even want me in the PA it sounded so dang beautiful.

Completely happy with this setup.

Medium size bar, punk rock, both channels sounded great.

This is my first tube amp. Coming from high watt micros, 100w just sounded (on paper) like it may not be enough...all worries gone after last night.

My bias issue is back already!
Switched it on and wanted to have a look at the bias, pretty happy that it has been running perfectly since the repair. Now the blinking in all colours was back, just like a disco mayhem.

I am so extremely fed up with this. I can't change the bias chip every two weeks. Has anyone repaired the amp after having the bias chip replaced?

I both love it and think it is a piece of junk that I want to throw away and replace with a proper amp of a different brand that actually works...

My HT112er has been long gone so I cannot compare them side by side, but I did play the 100T into it before it went . To my mind the NV115 is in a different league, for my purposes anyway. More depth, tighter and more grunt. I was not that impressed with the 100t into the 112er, it worked but lacked the character I enjoy. The 115 just opened the 100t up for me, it really is a perfect combination. The 112er is a great cab but it just did not seem to do anything special for me with tne 100t, the nv115 was one of those lightbulb moments. I was actually considering selling the 100t before the nv115 arrived since I also have the sb300, now the 100t is seeing much more work. The 115 is deceptive, I took the nv215 as usual to a gig last weekend only to rea.ise that in the smallish room I would have been much happier driving the nv115.

That's more of a customer service thing here, at least with any good business. It might help that I know my contact at the music store I purchased from quite well, but I'd like to think the result would have been the same for anybody else. One of Brisbane's best amp techs couldn't beat it, twice, after all!

I agree that where you buy from and their CS and relationship with the manufacturer has a lot to do with how good or bad your warranty experience might be. I once bought a 50's series Fender Strat from one of the local GC's. After about 4 months the neck started to twist. Called Fender CS who advised me to contact the selling dealer to have the guitar checked to verify the issue. I asked to be transferred to upper tech support and explained to the upper level CS rep that I'd already talked to GC and IMO nobody at the local GC was qualified to verify the issue. I was told that only an authorized Fender warranty center can verify and request a replacement.

I decided to take it to a local luthier shop and just have it checked and possibly fixed rather than trying for wattanty. When I told them what Fender said they told me they were a long time Fender repair center and had a good relationship with them. They were able to get Fender to replace the neck under warranty just because of their solid relationship with FMIC.
