Totally depends on what sort of materials you use and what sort of work you're able to do yourself. My woodworking/painting/finishing skills are pretty limited and my time to improve is also limited.
So my inclination would be to buy mostly prefinished parts and put something very much LIKE this together. I think I can do it for under $600.
If you can paint your own body, you might be able to do it cheaper.
Please, Please, Please, stop commenting on the price of this bass. It is outrageous. We all get that. If you want to discuss the price further please start a new thread.
I already knew all about that prior to buying # 10 when they first came out. They still don't have that much in common except as I said the pickup routing and bolt on neck.

To break that impass you could always do some research into what the original concept was, the neck construction, the pickup and preamp characteristics and compare them to what you think they were trying to be.
Meaning, its easy. Unless you were Special Ed in school.
Eh, I would watch the Special Ed jokes. They can be taken very personal.
We get it. The bass is expensive and probably wont sell. Why do these threads keep popping up?
For the price, here's what I want out of it:
- Three tone Sunburst with Black Pearloid PG
- Blackened chrome pickups
- Matching headstock
- Make it active and have an active/passive switch
- Have a stereo output
- Have my name engraved in the neck heel
Seriously, for $6K that sounds doable.
Right now though, I'd much rather get a Lakland Decade with ChiSonics or an Ovation Magnum I (or II or III) if I want this style of bass. Yes it's beautiful, but $6K? I'd rather buy a Wal.

Maybe it would help if you got some long term hands-on gigging and recording experience playing more than just a few copies of the instruments in question and get some idea of what they really sound and play like compared to each other.
