I actually prefer a pre cbs 65 with those looks as a true vintage 1965. If it were a custome shop for I wouldn't mind either but their would be a few minor tweaks

Indeed, but the CS would probably be a better build.
Also, they say the vintage stuff, even Pre-CBS, are hit-and-miss for good sound.
1965 is CBS era. Pre-CBS is anything 1964 or older.

I finally got to jam my Fender CS Jazz with a couple buds. Just me, a drummer, and a guitarist. It was an amazing experience. The tone and playability of this bass brought out the best jamming I have ever done. I play in a band where we write original songs and I haven't jammed in a long time. I was coming up with riffs like never before. What an amazing bass guitar. I love this bass.
So I just took a plunge on a bass that I'm not 100% about.

This seller mentioned this is a master built 70's custom jazz. Built by Jason smith.
The bass however is equipped with the scn pickups and active fender preamp with a hipshot B bridge. I see markings on the neck but not on the body.
Is this normal? One off build?
The bass weighs 7lbs 10oz!! So I'm guessing the body is legit for it to be that light.
Can't wait to get my hands on it! Should arrive on Monday.
One last question. Do you guys think I can put on a normal 5 hole bridge over the hipshot b holes?

Call Fender customer service, give them the serial number and ask for the "shop floor traveller". It will tell you exactly how the bass was spec'd and if anything has been modified.
That said, I would be very hesitant on any FCS bass that the body had no markings. Seems like a big red flag to me.

Just got off the phone with customer service. Couldn't believe a live person was on the other end after just 2 rings!

It could be a custom, I suppose... '70s styling with modern electronics...maybe that's the vibe the original owner was going for...but if I'm getting something like that built by Jason Smith, you'd damn well better believe somebody's hand winding '70s style CS pickups in that bad boy, because other than the color, why would this be a custom order at all....?..couldn't you get virtually the same options in a Custom Classic....?...if this is a Master Build, they really must love those Samarium Cobalts because the specs aren't anything drastically different than what's already out there for way less...

Got the spec sheet! Everything looks legit and I got a master built fender at a normal custom shop price!
So the shop who sold it thought they were scn pickups like the custom classics but I'm so glad they were wrong. However I do not know if these are just set 75 pickups or handwound. Either way I'm glad I got it! Even though I wish it were a P..

Wow.. Those floor travelers werent as detailed ten years ago...no specifics on the pickups...if there's marking for a soldering, they might not be the originals...hard to image someone ordering a master build with those pickups..but maybe..either way, it seems like a great deal..
EDIT....oh ok...I'f theyre the originals, very sweet deal on a rare bass

The whole "hand wound " thing May very well be a marketing thing..I'm really referring to the actual pickups that are put into CS bass, whether they're hand wound or not...

Retrofits your Fender five hole mount bridge on your 4 string bass.
... you can still replace with a 5-hole Fender bridge by using 3-screws(without drilling) and glue the two screw heads (if you won't drill it).
So I got the bass and man! It's the lightest jazz bass I ever put my hands on. I played other light basses but the weight balance was always off. The neck and body weighs the perfect amount to make it feel like a feather.
I sent photos of the electronics to the fender customer service rep and was notified that they are the original scn pickups the customer picked out. Not sure why you would pick those for a master builder to put in but not my boat. Electronics the bass has an Aguilar 2 band obp-1. I like it! Reminds me of Sadowsky's pre.
My only gripe is I wish it were a P bass! Just how I prefer my 4 strings.

Ultimately, if you love it, the pickup type doesn't really matter....and get the P later on when you find another deal that's out of this world...play it in good health..!
