Fender decals on not-really-Fender basses

Fender has their name on EVERY Squier right from the factory.

Well, Im feeling like a broken record here & should probably just give up, but unless you got the decal from Fender or a Fender dealer- you don't have a Fender decal. You have a counterfeit decal on your instrument.

I completely understand that argument, and agree with it.

I'd even go as far as to say that maybe guys should just scrape them off b4 selling.

Yeah, something tells me they are aware of that and really could care less.

And honestly I don't think anyone is arguing that a fake decal is indeed a fake decal.

a) I don't feel ridiculous putting my own name on it. That's an excellent choice, and if I ever put a decal on the bass I completely refinished, it probably will be my name.

b) Headstocks don't need decals. They play just as well without them. This headstock I refinished has been without a decal for 10 years.

c) If you don't like your name, come up with something else...like your jersey number from high school softball or baseball.

This ^^ is NOT a Fender logo. It's a Squier logo. Squier is OWNED by Fender as a budget line. A Squier bass has a SQUIER logo because it's a SQUIER bass, NOT a Fender. Just because the Fender brand appears as a subtext does not mean this is a Fender bass. If it were a Fender bass, it would have a Fender logo!!!

no doudt, if it were a Fender it would say Fender. its a Squier owned by Fender...and thats what it states. when one removes the word "Squier" and replaces it with a LARGE FENDER logo, then they have committed a fake.

You put nothing there. Get used to it, and realize a logo has nothing to do with your musicianship and your playing.

it amazes me even more that TBers argue how relics arent fakes then turn around and defend that squiers are actaully Fenders and it doesnt matter what the logos read. if you remove the brand name and replace it with another name, wheather its made by that company or not arent you producing a fake? a false representaion. i mean, would you call your kid by another mans name? why would it matter, you actually made the kid, he's yours, you can call him what ever you want right? prolly not. why because its wrong.

The only time I'd ever change the logo out is to shut all the gear snobs up.
There's a couple bands around here who refuse to even let someone audition if they're using a Squier, LTD, or Cort bass.

I've been looking at the Squier VM Jazz Bass V, and I'd change the decal on it to a Fender one just to shut them up & hear me before they judge.

It occurred to me that the many people claiming that Fender's quality varies so much may be influenced by the number of fakes on the market. A sticker is enough to fool pretty much anyone who is new to Fenders. Throw in enough mods and outright counterfeits over 50 years (especially via eBay and Craigslist) and you will have enough low quality "Fenders" mixed in with the real ones to make a difference.

My reliced Fender P bass is definitely a fake relic - but I made sure that the original 2006 serial number is clearly visible and unobscured. It suffered from a big ding that killed the resale value, so I just went all in and had some fun relicing it. The hardest part was getting the cigarette burn on the headstock because today's cigarettes have some kind of anti smoldering chemical added. I felt bad because I offered the leftover ciggs to my neighbor and he declined saying that he stopped smoking. A couple days later I saw him smoking again. Hope it wasn't me.

I forget who was saying this, but on Broadway many of the scores specified a "Fender bass". Some people are shallow. I bet they'd be pissed if they found out that you fooled them. Heh.

So this way of thinking would mean a Jazz is a Jazz bass not a Fender.
A Telecaster is a Telecaster guitar not a Fender. and so on

There all just different series that fender offers.

Regardless of what Fender decides to put on it or how you guys want to spin it. it's a Fender, if Fender owns it and makes money from it it's a Fender and is nothing more than just another series.

Squire isn't even it's own company anymore and hasn't been since what the 80's?

thats funny i got my RW jazz and the first thing i did was cigarette burn the headstock! then reliced it more, a fake relic? yup i dont care. i like it that way, own too many basses and dont have the years left in me to allow it to wear on its own...and so i am a proud relic poser and i dont care! but i also have a custom Pbass (with no headstock logo) and i WILL own a Squier VM soon, and neither of them will sport a fender waterslide decal, thats just me though.

No, because there isn't a Squier guitar or bass. There are Squier Jazz basses and Fender Jazz basses. Fender and Squier are both trademarked lines of instruments owned by FMIC. A Jazz bass is a model of a bass characterized by its offset body, twin single coil pickups and 1.5" neck width. "Jazz" is also a trademark owned by FMIC as is "Precision" or "Stratocaster".

Sorry, but Squier isn't a Fender. They look like Fenders, but they're a separate line of budget instruments typically made overseas with a lower level of craftsmanship.
