Fender decals on not-really-Fender basses

What I have an aversion to is poseurs. If someone wants to be a poseur, fine. Just admit it. Don't hide behind nonsense like "personal taste". Personal taste is having a red bass painted green because you like green. Personal taste is NOT placing a forged label onto a cheap knockoff. People don't do that because of personal taste. They do it because they're ashamed of what they own.

It sounds like, just for kicks, you are just being a poser to fool your ownself into thinking you own a real factory Fender bass.I'm a living room rocker. I haven't played out in years. So if I put together a parts bass and just for kicks I put a Fender logo on it, who exactly am I misleading on the performing stage?
It's still personal taste regardless if you get in a huff about it or not.
Then again, I have played and seen enough real "Fender"s to know it isn't that huge of an exclusive badge of honor to own one, so it doesn't bother me at all when someone does something like that

I think a lot of young guns do it because they think playing a real Fender gives them cred and playing a Squier makes them look like beginners.
It is about the scene more than it is about the sound.
I would not do it because the attempt to not look like a poseur makes you a fraud and a poseur anyway. Want to impress people? Play well.
If you are auditioning for a band and they care more about your logo than your skill then it is not a band you should want to be a part of.

This is the first thing that should pop in your head when someone cares if you have a "Fender."

You know how hard it is to get a Squier replacement? I'm having two made from a company in the U.K. Total about $40, but worth it to me. The bass started out as a Squier, and when finished the body and neck will still be so, and the headstock will proclaim it as so.
Personal taste or not, when you label something as something it is not, you're deceiving SOMEONE. If you can't handle owning a Squier, don't buy one. Don't paste a Fender decal on it or a homemade bass for your own ego gratification, then claim it doesn't matter (because you want to stroke your own ego by having a bass that says Fender on it).
YOU may know the difference, but a few years from now you're probably helping someone cheat the next buyer down the road.
