Fender deluxe PJ smokes MIA imo

Anyone upgrade the pick ups to the EMG Geezer set. I find the stock pick ups to be better than other MIM I have owned but always after better tone.
I thought about taking the P/J set out of my squire but then I played them both and like them both so going to leave the stock ones in for now. I did throw some DR Black Beauties on and....WOW! To me they really bring out, well, everything and really add to the looks too! But man does she sing, growl, and punch now!

Here's the passive version, although in the video they show a black one hanging on the wall and there isn't a black version available now...I'm not even sure if the 3-tone sunburst is still available.

After contacting Fender I was told the production run was 906. In 2013 it was available in Black or Seafoam Pearl.

Two Guitar Centers in my area, not the GC five minutes away, unfortunately, have them hanging up. It's available online, too, of course, but I'm definitely going to stop by the GC in Totowa to try one out. Much better than the active version, I'd have to think, and the Seafoam Pearl looks incredible.
By the way, $735 is a great price. I just hope when I can afford one...after the holidays since I just bought a bass...GC emails me a 15% off coupon so I can save some money.
I have never seen a GC coupon that didn't exclude Fender and Squier.

Of course not, that's because they're happy to charge more.
I've used it twice in the past 14 months or so. You just have to bring it to their attention...and don't take "no" for an answer.
Well, it makes me wonder why bother with the coupon at all if you plan on buying a Fender. Sure, you can ask for 20% off and you might get it, but it will be in spite of the coupon, not because of it.

So I just got the fender deluxe pj in a fetching seafoam green, I am having my tattoo artist paint the pickgaurd with old school nautical art. (No I'm not covered in ink this guy is just a buddy and an amazing artist) anyway I'm just here to rave about this bass!!! It's amazing ! Seriously if I could design a fender this is it. LOVE the p-bass as far as I'm concerned the jazz can't hold a candle to the P! That said I hate the neck, way to big. With this bass they used a 70s jazz neck! I do love the jazz neck, plays like a indi track, super fast! The best part is its maple!! I know a lot say no diff between rosewood and maple but i can clearly hear it! It's got full p pickups with a jazz for the bridge! Also it's passive!!! I mean good god this thing is amazing! I got a killer deal on it with a bit of trickery at GC :) $735 out the door brand new with a rad road runner gig bag! Full p 75% tone and 25% j this thing sounds better than the few MIA I have played!!has anyone played this wonderful bass? It's a limited run, anyone know how many they made?

Be careful saying that!

The Fender fanboys will show up and put words in your mouth, claiming you're saying every Fender MIM and Squier is better than every Fender MIA out there.

It's much easier to believe that a particular model of bass out of the MIM plant might be comparable and/or better for you. You stated it was your opinion, and your opinion is perfectly valid.

I bought a Road Worn Precision and I love that sucker. I'd say it's pretty comparable in terms of quality control, component quality, and wood choice to my older 2001 Fender. I have no idea if the newer Fenders are better though as I switched to G&L basses for most my new/modern bass needs. Feature-wise the Road Worn is very different than a MIA Standard, but if you're shopping for a vintage style bass you're not looking for those modern MIA Fender features like posiflex rods, etc.

I keep hearing great things about those Deluxe PJs. It's causing some major GAS!!!

Just to save others the trouble of looking for a demo:

Great, now there's yet another Precision I want. Someone stop the insanity!

I think the one the OP got was the passive version? I could be wrong.

GuitarCenter and MusiciansFriend have a special run of PJs right now :

I have never seen a GC coupon that didn't exclude Fender and Squier.

That 20% off coupon they released awhile back did work on a Fender for me. That was on the GC website. I added the bass to my cart, applied the coupon, and Wah LA! I ended up buying a Fender Road Worn 50s P bass for 800 dollars (normally they're 1000).

That being said, I got the coupon early in the sale. When I tried getting another of the same coupon for my wife it would not work with Fender basses at all.

I think they must have not set some criteria on the coupon at first and then fixed it later. Not wanting to piss off their customers, they let the old coupons slide through is my guess.

Other people I've heard just asked the manager at a physical GC location to honor the coupon on a Fender and they just decided to do so. They don't have to honor the coupon, but they will sometimes to have a happy customer. The coupon can help your case for the discount at least.

Orange drop capacitor and Fender Original P-Bass pickup. I was going to do Antiquity's, but wanted to keep it all Fender. I love the result. The tone is much fuller than the stock pickups.

Ross, I have a 50s lacquer PB, pretty much just like yours and what I want to ask is, did you have something of a rats nest under the hood?

I sure did. All I did was clean up my wiring by braiding the pickup leads a bit, and just a bit of tidying up and redoing some questionable soldering. Not adequate and yet very sloppy at the same time.

But, I am not complaining a bit. It was very minor to me, but just wondering.

I think I had almost a foot of excess wiring, LOL!
