Fender Flea bass thoughts

Hmm...
Wikipedia says this:

Sunburst (finish) - Wikipedia

O.K. aged is not the same as worn but both imitate age, aren't they?
If be weary to cite Wikipedia on anything... Sunburst finishes were definitely not supposed to imitate a guitar left out in the sun for 50 years, though. I've read two passages about the sun burst finish. One was from a book about acoustic guitars, which takes about the French polish -something that still pops up from time to time in the finishing department at my cabinet shop, and the other was from a Fender book. I wish I could recall the name of either book, but both were read many years ago.

Picked up a s/h Flea yesterday. First impressions are very favourable - it is a massive improvement in quality over my last MIM Jazz and the bridge pickup with the tone rolled off is a wonderful vintage J sound. I like the roadworn look - a nice contrast with my other, generally as new, instruments.

I was in L&M on Bloor in Toronto on the weekend. Something caught my eye on the wall. As I approached, I noticed that the pink mojo vibe I was getting from this bass was suddenly wearing off as I realized it was a relic. I picked it up and it felt good. Didn't plug it in though. The need to have a brand new bass look old and have marketing associations with Flea just didn't sit right with me.
I we in L&M last month on Bloor....in Toronto... and I saw the same bass (it had to be the same bass....they send it out as a rental). I love Fender Jazz basses.... I picked this up and I fell in love. I had it plugged in. I want one now. I'm not into relic'd basses either. I do love Flea though.... and I have been now scheming as to how I could get my hands on one.

I am very particular with my other basses. No scratches or dents.....

Imagine having a bass where you don't have to worry about any dings since it looks like it has been to war already....

I want one. Need cheddar....
