Fender Fullerton Reissue club

Telll me it doesn't ring like no other.....

Last night I was practicing one of the songs I do where I slappa d'bass and man I just need to say that this bass does ring like no other! I don't know if it's the maple neck or the resonant body or both, but it was very noticeably awesome sounding. I am so impressed with this bass... It's taken a few practice sessions to get used to the neck profile (was mostly a jazz neck profile player), but I'm definitely in the comfort zone now and find the neck comfy to play and interestingly more comfortable to me now than a jazz neck which now feels cramped to me.

As promised picks. Pots are from mid Oct of 82 sn

I know older pots ended up in the corona ariv 62's. But an older pot matched with a misplaced headstock sticker is pretty weird...

What you need to date the pots are the four numbers coming after R137, as in R137XXYY. XX denotes the year, YY the week.

The stamp does throw me a bit.
Would be awesome if it was legible.
Then there would be no doubt ..but If in fact it is the correct neck it could possibly say 83 ...
From the smudge def not a 2 or 4 on the end.
Which is not far from the late 82 pots.
The body and pots are no doubt to me a Fullerton ri.
Worse case IMHO is that the neck could have been damaged and replaced with another later avri neck.
More likely....stamp just got smudged.

Meant to say the pots above...
I'm more used to looking at the 57 p.
So I would digress to someone more into the j of that era.
I re read some of your earlier posts just now.
The v number does seem a bit high.
I agree...most likeley early corona with some left over Fullerton pots

I'm more of a fullerton avri p bass guy but..most I've seen had date in pencil.
I find it weird that it is a stamp and that the most important part is smudged.
Pots are def correct....hmmm

No doubt it was soulcrushing when the

The stamp being smudged was soulcrushing. There is another pic I have that has A sticker on the neck. I'm going to email fender to date it so they can give me a wishywashy answer :) in my heart I could care less which year it was made, as this is my take it to the grave jazz bass now. If it's a replacement neck, they picked a winner as it's the best part of the rig. My pickup guy showed me the dead pup, which looked as if someone had opened it up and freestyled around in there with a mini screwdriver. He looked pretty disgusted and I had to let him know " hey man it wasn't me!" I've never heard the neck pup so looking forward to hearing that in action. The smudge looks like it's a 3 or an 8 on the end. I'll post whatever fender comes back with...

Thank you to all the fender bass friends who have chimed in to lend assistance. You guys are all cool in my book

Always more difficult to tell from a pic than in person, but the date stamp looks like Feb 2 1988 to me. Fulllerton neck dates were usually handwritten. The decal with the positioning of the "OFFSET Contour Body" part towards the ball end of the headstock would also be consistent with an early Corona model, as would the serial number.

Take a look at this for comparison:

Lots of good info on that site.

Fullertons fell in the CBS era, so what do you mean by that?

It's a jazz with that weird headstock sticker, not a p. I thought they had all the sticker misplacements under control by 84 ish. The real person at fault here is h Cuevas for that smudged stamp. The pots being made in late 1982 and February neck date would make sense. Also I read they made a bazillion pots in 82 so it's possible they made it onto this bass. Thx for the help all

When I was looking for a 57 Fullerton ri. I found a bass here local.
The guy swore her bought it in 84.
I took the neck off...no date at all.
The pots dated it 96.
Neck plate was v03xx.. If I remember right..ldk.
It took quite a while to convince the seller that he was mistaken... And almost bought it anyway cause it was a very nice bass. .but eventually I found deal I could not turn down on a 58 custom shop that i posted a few pages back.

I know of that sale as the guy wouldn't budge on his belief of his being a Fullerton. I knew you guys would help me date this thing. Off to the courthouse so we can get married.

All 3 of the 88 examples I just looked at have the same sticker placement. The case has the duck foot for sure. My sn# is about 700 or 800 earlier then the link from that fender reissue shop. Maybe when they found those old 82 pots they also found an 82 case to ship it in?.?.??.....I'm convinced it's an 88

Fullertons have the deeper body contours like the PreCBS Stuff.
Coronas less like the CBS.

I can ony speak for Precisions.
Its not the angle of the pic, I owned 4 Fullertons and 1 Corona over the years.
