Finally got around to posting a pic of my rare 1983 fiesta red 62 reissue. Neck date Sep 02 1983. Neck plate number V01####. It is sitting in its' original duck foot style Fullerton era case accompanied by lots of case candy. (On a side note, the holes were never drilled for the bridge and pick up covers. The original finish is as good as it looks. It's easily a nine out of 10.) Although this bass came from the factory with a white pick guard I do also have a Fullerton era tort guard as well. I switch them back-and-forth sometimes. The bass was originally believed to have been purchased by Dave Stolz (Dickey Betts bassist) and then passed through two other collectors. it is such a great bass to play. Thanks to everyone for posting such great pics! I love keeping up on this thread.

Do you have the original Keys - did they say Cheney "England" or "UK", are your original ashtrays have a stamp inside?

My keys are Cheney UK. I'll have to check on the ashtrays when I get home.

There seems to be more varieties of Fiesta Red than most other vintage Fender colours - they are either too red-orange or too coral pink. I would own a FR J if I found one that looked like yours - awesome!

Just found one of these. From 1990 the original Fullerton/Corona '57,'62 "owners manual" was replaced with this generic version for both guitars and basses.

Oli, I had a look at my case keys. Unfortunately I realised that over the years in storage some (loose) parts of my 1983 Fullerton RI Jazz and my 2000 Corona RI Jazz may have got mixed up.

I have a set of keys (two) that say 'Cheney England' and another (single) key that says 'Cheney UK'. Anyone know which one(s) would belong to the Fullerton?

All the paperwork (warranty card, hang tags etc) is easily identifiable but I'm struggling with some of the other bits...

Thumbrest: They look pretty much the same, with one notable difference - one of them has a line on each of the (long) inside walls, the other doesn't. Anyone know which one is the Fullerton?

Metal covers: One of the bridge covers has the red stamp on the inside, I'm pretty sure that's the Fullerton. Both neck pickup covers are unstamped.

Mutes: I notice the (long) hole for the screw is a little wider on one of the sets but I have no idea whether that's the Fullerton or Corona.

Various screws: I don't think I'll be able to separate those!

Rookie error not labelling everything properly, stupid!

Just checked my two spare thumbrests which are genuine Fullertons along with the one on my '62 Jazz. All are identical to the one in the photo.

Thanks, guys, but what I was referring to isn't actually shown in Oli's photo, either way...

Here are the insides of my two 62 RI thumbrests. As you can see, one of them has a line running along the inside wall(s), the other one hasn't. I think the one without is the Fullerton but I'm not sure!

I'm guessing this is a corona and not Fullerton? There are no date stamps on the neck, black bottom pickups, no codes on the cts pots. Obviously guard unoriginal and it did have black knobs and I put the chrome ones on.

EDIT- I thought it was a corona one based on my experience with a 57 Fullerton P I had, I found one identical to this one on ebay listed as a 1988. Shame mine doesnt have a neck date as id like to know what year it is but it probably is a 1988 as the serial numbers are close

It's actually from '83 and looks as if it's spent most of the time locked carefully away. Like all the Fullerton J's it has one of the slimmest necks that makes it feel so natural to play.
The covers were never installed so the pilot holes by the bridge remain untouched. Interesting that the factory never installed the additional pilot holes for the neck pickup cover. I've always really liked these early reissues , and while they were never exact replicas ,the impression is one of Fender wanting to show that they could once again produce instruments musicians wanted to play . The Fullerton tweed cases are beautiful but have to be treated with care . So many end up getting marked and damaged. The amount of case candy produced at that time certainly gives a reflection of the company's enthusiasm and commitment to this range.
Over the years I've been collecting various catalogues and price lists from around the world covering the Fullerton reissues. Always on the lookout for anything unusual. It's great this club exists knowing that there are other fellow Fullerton fans out there !!!

Doesn't look like anyone said anything about this but beyond the serial number being too high the easiest way to tell that it's not a Fullerton is the logo placement. The Fender Precision bass logo was misplaced in the late 80's and later corrected by the 90's. It is possible that some Fullerton parts were used in the late 80's models in Corona. For instance the pepperoni guards can be found on some reissues even into the very early 90's. The photo of your body looks like it might possibly have the router bump suggesting that it's possible it is an older Fullerton era body. Another way to confirm that would be to check the thickness of the contour of the body. Nice looking bass!
