Fender Fullerton Reissue club

image.jpeg
1982 Japan and US/Canadian catalogues.

View attachment 800295 Here is a picture of the ashtrays from my US '81 Standard Precision.
They look and feel the same like my Fullerton Ashtrays (basically they are fullertons too).
The only difference is: These stamps (C P) ? on the inside of the Standard ones.
Did somebody have a clue or recognized, why some are stamped and the others not?
Fairly sure mine have a stamp too.

Fullertons have the deeper body contours like the PreCBS Stuff.
Coronas less like the CBS.

I can ony speak for Precisions.
Its not the angle of the pic, I owned 4 Fullertons and 1 Corona over the years.

I own a Fullerton, and also had two Coronas a while back. All Jazz basses, and they were exactly like the pick attached, WRT contours. The bodies on the Coronas was also a bit thicker, sorta like my 78 P.

If you have the time, please take a look if your '62 Fullerton Jazz got those stamps. My Fullertons have them not. But I'm not sure if those are replacements...
Thank You!!!

My '62 Fullerton Reissue and '82 "Standard Series" (sold many years ago) Jazzes both have these stamps and are the originals.
The Fullerton Reissue /Standard Series Precision & Jazz bass chrome covers shared the same part numbers for each model .As a result there was no special version produced for the newly launched Vintage Reissue series.Fender probably had large stockpiles of these.

The one on the bottom left is exactly the same as my '82 (long gone too).
Okay guys: The latest Serielnumber for a '84 Fullerton I ever noticed was a V017... .

Please take a look at this one (not mine):
Its must be one of the first Coronas ever made. 1986 handwritten. Corona contours. And a V00... Serial (if it's original).
Can't tell if its the "round" slab board. Corona Sticker placement (Offset...).

Looks like the one from Joe's Guitar Store.
The body appears to look more like an '82/'83 version. By 1984 the shape for the Jazz Bass began to change .The most notable was the lower horn becoming less defined ,looking more like the Precision. Other changes included increasing the distance of the pick guard/control panel from the edge of the body which further diluted the original vintage look (as the above 1986 green Jazz photo shows).
By the late eighties, early nineties the body even became marginally smaller with greater contour reduction, which was adopted by the Custom Shop . Having owned an early nineties CS Jazz I always thought it a shame why they didn't use an original early '60s model for template reference. The CS quality was very high though.
The new 2013 Pure Vintage range redressed these issues and is now far more accurate.Would be great if the CS would use these templates rather than the generic one.

Interesting. Agreed on the greater distance of the control plate/pickguard from the edge of the body on the Seafoam Green bass but I don't see any real difference in the shape of the lower horn. (By 'lower' we're talking treble side, right?) I think those perceptions can also be influenced by the colour of the finish and the background. Not saying there isn't a difference but I'm struggling to see it in above photos!

Does your original Fullerton Cheney Keys say "England" or "UK"?
Thanks!

Nobody?

Oli, I had a look at my case keys. Unfortunately I realised that over the years in storage some (loose) parts of my 1983 Fullerton RI Jazz and my 2000 Corona RI Jazz may have got mixed up.

I have a set of keys (two) that say 'Cheney England' and another (single) key that says 'Cheney UK'. Anyone know which one(s) would belong to the Fullerton?

All the paperwork (warranty card, hang tags etc) is easily identifiable but I'm struggling with some of the other bits...

Thumbrest: They look pretty much the same, with one notable difference - one of them has a line on each of the (long) inside walls, the other doesn't. Anyone know which one is the Fullerton?

Metal covers: One of the bridge covers has the red stamp on the inside, I'm pretty sure that's the Fullerton. Both neck pickup covers are unstamped.

Mutes: I notice the (long) hole for the screw is a little wider on one of the sets but I have no idea whether that's the Fullerton or Corona.

Various screws: I don't think I'll be able to separate those!

Rookie error not labelling everything properly, stupid!

Indeed it's very subtle and l'm probably the only person to notice this (Jazz Bass OCD !!))The body follows the outline of the pick guard closer on the original Jazz Basses from 1960 to around late 1983 .Having owned at one time a late 1984 Fullerton Jazz I noticed this difference. The above photos show how (lower horn ,treble side) the sunburst version is very slightly more defined than the green version .

This is one of the ways I can tell a CS from an original without have to be too close.

Mine all say Cheney England . Near mint 1984 '57 Strat reissue on eBay ,looks like UK on the keys(see photo). So both could be Fullerton.

Same here. My 2003 Corona Keys has no label, just blank keys.
Accidentally I looked at my StingRay '96 ones - they say "England" - old Style Case (from '96) 100% original.
The ashtrays on my 1981 Standard Precision are also 100% original, both with stamps.
So I was confused, but as Britbass says both are correct.
I check the thumbrest as soon I got home (only weekly) and take a pic from the Fullerton.

(btw I ordered some new ashtrays (orig. Fender, not the 2013s) a year ago. The metal was only half as thick as all my others. So thin you can cut yourself.)
