Fender Fullerton Reissue club

i purchased it new in '83 and didn't know it was a big deal. i'm not sure if i have the original pickguard, etc.

I'm just seeing this post now. I have a fullerton with a 4-26-84 neck. Had it off a while a go and took pics but can't seem to find them at the moment. Actually had the whole bass apart a few years ago and took lots of pics of everything but cant seem to locate them right now. I think my neck is stamped Torres. I have owned several fullertons and I think most of them have had the name stamped on neck but I think I had one with no name on it but all of mine had pencil dates. I have heard of some fullertons with stamp dates but I think that's rare. I can't remember for sure about the color of my pickups but think they may be black and mine have the raised A poles. I also heard there were some fullerton '57s that didn't have them so just because yours doesn't have them doesn't mean they are not original. I have mixed feelings about the paint on yours....it looks like it could be original fullerton factory because I have seen black ones with similiar wear, however the thing that makes me suspicious of a refin is the look of the neck pocket...I don't think I have seen a perfectly neat masked off block like that where date is....looks like masking tape was put there for a refin. That being said it could have been done by the fullerton factory, I know they even did factory refins sometimes and I have owned some like that...usually if its a factory refin you see the original color underneath. Yours looks like a silver undercoat. I'd have to look back on more of my older pics because I have taken lots of pics of every fullerton I have owned in the past. The other stange thing about the body is the pickup cavity and lack of inspection stickers....every fullerton I have owned has had at least one little circle inspection sticker and if they fell off you can see the imprint. Many of mine had a few stickers. I'm not saying yours is not a fullerton because of that though...it does appear to be to me. What about the body contours? Does it have the very deep contours that fullertons are known for? Thats a good indicator. All of the ones I have owned had the very deep contours like a real '50s P bass.The Corona reissues don't have that except for some of the early ones that they used fullerton parts on. Your Fender logo looks fine on the headstock...its the string tree that's moved up higher toward d tuner and mine is exactly the same position as yours. On my '82 and '83 they are lower.

Its a very worn finish. What has not been beat on is very smooth. Where the guard was its glassy underneath but any area thats not been covered its beat on.

Here are photos of it now and with the previous owner in 2001, had the stickers on it when I got it. You can see above the E string and guard some missing finish and its in the photo with her by the blue circle.

I am going to contact the previous owner but based on the wear I can see it already had in 2001 I do think its original paint, it would be a custom color finish so I wouldnt expect the neck pocket to look like a 1982 sunburst model. I can already tell Fullertons were all over the map how they were made judging by how different my logo and the '57 in white on this pages logo are, mine and his are identical placement.

I just like finding out the history on my gear its fun

I see from back pic it does seem to have the deep contours.

Dont know the exact year but it is a V00 serial number.It has the autographs of B.B.King,Gatemouth Brown,George Clinton,and George Porter on it.Whoever had it before me put actives in it as you can see by the pic of the back.



Enjoy your Fullertons,they are wonderful basses. One day I hope to enjoy mine again.

Today my fiesta red finally found it's way home.

All the signatures have been wiped off of the back but my favorite bass ever will soon be back in my possession!

I got the bass and it is probably the best Fullerton reissue I have owned. Aside from some finish damage from a guitar stand it is pretty much NOS. I got it from someone that bought it from the store they worked at and pretty much never played it much. No oxidization anywhere the pots are perfect the frets have zero wear. My issue is that I continue to forget that while I love Precision basses I am more comfortable with a slimmer neck. I will post some photos but I am likely going to put a trade feeler for a Lakland Glaub (the only basses I have ever liked as much as a fullerton). I figure with a specific trade option I will be holding onto it for awhile and potentially getting more used to the wide neck. Whenever I go a period of time without a Fullerton I wonder why I ever sell them and then when I get one I realize it's the full P width neck that I am not comfortable with. Such an amazing bass though...perhaps I will get more comfortable with it. All of this would be easier if I liked Jazz basses but I really don't. I vastly prefer a P. I will post some photos later today,

Im just seeing this now myself, long story short I picked it up for $100 not really knowing what it was just that it was worth more then $100, i thought maybe it was Japanese but when I got home that night at 11pm I pulled it apart and my heart was racing. By far my best score ever, likely to never be topped.

Do you know the pencil date on your neck? Also do you know what the bottom of your pickups look like and if there cloth or plastic wires? While I think my pickup is unoriginal as I have only heard of black bottom pickups on the fullerton guitars I am wondering that if at some point in 1984 as they were closing the plant and had some basses to finish they threw whatever pickup they had in.

Man, sorry for the waaaaaaaaaaaaay late response. One thing to remember with Fender basses from this era and earlier: never say never. Learned this from someone at Fenderforum.com. Mine was one of those last out of the shop models too. I ran it up the flagpole at fenderforum.com to see what they thought mostly because mine has no date visible on the neck. Pots date to early 84, as does the serial # on the neck plate. From what I remember the guys at fenderforum said the string tree and decal could be just about anywhere but the placement was typical for late in the game. Don't recall the color of the pickup bottoms but I do remember the wires were cloth covered. It all added up to a real deal fullerton reissue.

I have a 1969 J and a 1966 P and I wanted a killer J for local gigging in original clubs.

I just can't bring my classic beauties to some of these original music dives - Usually with 3 bands shuffling gear on and off stage.

Lots of alcohol and a lot of poor musicians. Some mates of mine have had their nice axes stolen.

Are there any experts who could give an opinion on Fullerton J's?

Not looking for an "atta boy" (well, maybe a little) but I'm really looking for info on these, as I bought it w/out being able to pick up and play it - Yikes!

But I trust Fender and I love the color - Sienna Red?

Love me some Fender J : )
