Fake branding Squiers or anything else ultimately hurts the brand, which is why Rickenbacker for one are so hard-line about defending theirs. I doubt that Fender would endorse people rebranding Squiers or parts-built basses as Fenders simply because "it is a Fender licensed or manufactured product" originally, since ultimately it compromises perception of the brand. I've stated before that I myself am wary of used Fenders precisely because you don't necessarily know what you're really getting, because of this kind of practice.
Worst attempt at an analogy ever. Your "analogy" has nothing to do with rebadging an existing something to make it appear that it is something that it is not, and this discussion has nothing to do with trying to create a useful franken-something from partially destroyed remainsA friend bought an early 80's Volvo that was in a serious garage fire. The car was destroyed, but the frame and body were intact...just burned badly.
He stripped the body and frame and repainted it. He used a Chevy V8 and loaded the car with classic Chevy appointments...moon hubs with the Chevrolet logo, badges, tail lights, etc.
The car is amazing. It looks sort of like a Volvo and like a Chevy that was never made.
What did he do that is wrong.
I agree (to an extent) but even when people come on here defending their actions (putting a Fender decal on a non-Fender) saying they are only doing it for themselves, because they like how it looks....some people still get irked.
What I wonder is why.

How about a Fender waterslide logo for the headstock that will appease the logo snobs that people may have in their band (or studio, or crowd, or even their own ego...), but that doesn't fully cross over to being a Fender fake and could never be passed off as one if being sold used
The OP was specifically attempting to change the direction of these kinds of discussions and find a middle-ground.
Yeah, and just how does he expect to "change the direction" if he's using fake Fender logos? If this topic has been done to death, it's because no one bothers to read the thread and they end up full of the same (so-called) 'debates'. The OP was specifically attempting to change the direction of these kinds of discussions and find a middle-ground.
Yeah, and just how does he expect to "change the direction" if he's using fake Fender logos?
I believe the answer to that question is in the first post.
Nope. don't see an answer, just someone trying to justify a fake Fender logo.
