I have both the PJ and the JMJ and I'm feeling like this is a deja vu post as I've definitely answered a similar question elsewhere but can't remember where...maybe the NDB post that's grown.

The PJ definitely has a P sound to it but adds the versatility of the PJ configuration. If you like the sound that a P bass provides the PJ definitely does that. The JMJ is a whole different sound. The pup is tuned very well and I've never had a tone pot with as much range. Lots of articulation on the top end and yet it doesn't go muddy when the tone is rolled off. It is by far the best sounding pup I've ever heard in a passive bass. It can do a pretty convincing P sound but it does a whole lot more. Its versatile, but in a different way.

In short, I feel like the JMJ gives you a range in style from open and clear and snarly to dubby and everything in between. The PJ on the other hand gives you a good P sound and then a different, more midrange P sound and then a trebly sound (not quite a bridge J soloed, just a nasaly bass sound) all at the flick of a switch.

I’m not so crazy about the seafoam green finish I have anymore, but I also don’t have someone around here to refinish mine for me so I’ll have to deal with it. I like the burst finish waaaaay more than my seafoam green. I’d even considered trading mine for a red one to someone but I don’t know anyone in my area that has a red one.

I just got this Mustang PJ off ebay. Former owner dropped it off tonight. He'd put in SD Quarter Pound pickups, and changed the tuners and bridge for black Schallers. Included the original pickups and bridge in the sale, but the stock tuners are gone. I wouldn't have gone for black hardware myself, but the bridge is growing on me. Will probably try and replace the tuners though if I can find stock ones somewhere. I don't even know what ones the PJ comes with.

Only had a bit of time tonight to play with it, but sounds great so far. I have a short scale Jaguar with Chromes on it, so might stick with the rounds on this one. Or swap them around.

Pleased to be joining the Mustang club. I've wanted one since these first came out.

The stock pickups were in the SD boxes, complete with wiring diagram which shows them the other way around, but doesn't say anything to suggest they have to be. They work great, so the wiring seems to be right. I'll probably swap them around at some point just so the logos line up.

Digging my JMJ at band rehearsal last night! Not sure what the other half of the "rhythmless section" is looking at...

Fender JMJ Mustang (TI Jazz Flat strings) --> Shure GLX-D digital wireless tuning pedal --> Ampeg SCR-DI (for scrambler overdrive and for gigs where I don't want to bring an amp) --> Fender Rumble 500 combo (for gigs when I do bring an amp)

Fine looking instrument!

As to the drummer, probably best to fire him for inattention to the beauty of that Mustang JMJ. Just leave some kibble and half a beer outside before your next rehearsal in case you still kinda need him.
