Does anybody know if the Fender American Standard Bass Bridge will fit the Mustang PJ? I would very much like to replace the bridge that came on my new bass with a string through. If not, any suggestions?
Thanks! I know the string through holes will need to be drilled (since none exist on the Mustang to begin with) and I'm OK with doing that. What I'm concerned about is screw mounting holes interfering with the "string through" holes. Has anyone ever done this? I'm a recent convert to "string through" based on some experimentation, previously thinking it was mostly hype. Still not sure that it increases sustain but it does create a different sound, one that obviously I prefer.

That is a very good point. Where the Rumble weighs 18lbs in total and the Marshall head alone weighs almost 30lbs and then there is the 4X12 speaker box to consider. Thank for that reminder. I'm to old to be lugging that kind of stuff into a apartment bedroom. I'm old enough to remember what Keith Richards looked like without wrinkles!

The posts were a little narrow for the holes in the headstock, so the tech padded them with masking tape for a snug fit. Also, he had to drill new holes in the back of the headstock since they’re not direct drop-ins.
Not sure if the tuners or the bridge contributed more to eliminating the neck dive, since it was done all at the same time... but, I’m happy with both!
As posted a few months back, I did mine in two steps. The HB6C-3/8 Tuners helped as the first step. The second step, Hipshot Brass A-Style Bass Bridge did the trick

It's always the small things isn't it? After I got the responses from here last night I rolled over to the Rumble 40 thread and read through. I seemed to remember this issue being brought up there and discussed thoroughly about 6 months ago. I found the discussion and read through before posting any questions.
There seemed to be a central theme going on. The questions and the answers always fell on to the same point. Connections. Whether they referred to the output and input jack on the bass and the amp, the ground connections at either the wall or the power socket in the amp, or the jack plugs on the output cable.
So I made a list of the simpler checks and decided to read the more complex after completing these. Using the KISS principle.
I cleaned the plug ends on the output cable with Alcohol, I also cleaned the input jacks on the bass and the amp using q tips, I replaced the power cable with new one I just so happened to have, and I plugged into a known good high end surge protector. I also copied down 2 control settings from the Fender customer forum that claimed to assist in resolving this issue.
What I did not do was open up the bass at all and mess with any of the wiring or connections, deciding if I got to that point it was electrician time. I did check the seating of the switch, output jack, controls and tightened where needed.
At this point I plugged in and powered on in the standard way. Dead silence unless the gain, the drive, level, treble, and volume were cranked up on the amp and the tone and the volume on the bass were turned up as well. When the levels were returned to the recommended placement from the forums it became clean as a whistle. Even when selected to the J pup exclusively.
I realize that this explanation has been fairly long winded and involved but my hope is that it might be of help to someone experiencing similar issues.
I also am aware that I lucked out by having individuals willing and patient enough to provide input, suggestions, and experience to steer me towards the easier and simpler solutions first.
Finally I have no idea which trick worked or if it was a combination or all of them. All I know is that it is fine now and my OCD is back at rest. Until the next time.

My classic rock dad band broke up in June, so me and the drummer decided to become a punk duo.
I strung my red Mustangs with GHS piccollo strings, and I'm using some effects for a Royal Blood type of thing. My tone isn't perfect, but well on the way.
We had our first gig last night. Here's some pics.

Thank you to everyone who recommended this case! I always bring two basses to gigs, so I got the double case. It is really, really nice. I had been using a regular sized bass double case, and I could never use it as a backpack because it was way too long for me, lol. Plus, my short scales weren’t very snug in there. This Gator case is perfect... good size with adjustable straps, and way more protection for the Mustangs! Also great big roomy well designed pockets. I might not have to bring along an extra accessory bag with this.

Two days ago, I spotted a used JMJ online. I've been interested in them since they were announced, but I've never seen one in the wild. The next morning (yesterday) I read or re-read some of the comments about them, here and elsewhere, and watched some YouTube videos.
Yesterday evening, I dropped by my local GC ... and there was a brand new JMJ! Hadn't even been tagged yet. To cut to the chase, I really liked it and bought it with a 20% discount. So I ended with a new one for just slightly more than the cost of the used one. Color me happy!

Oh Man, I would love to have saved 20%! Not in Canadia though... We almost always pay too much!
I think I would have a hard time telling if one of those JMJ's was new or not.
