Those are cool looking, eh. If one in very nice condition were available locally, I’d be hard pressed not to pick it up.

I imagine it would be what my SG bass hasn’t quite been for me (though a pickup swap could probably cure that — I’m mainly just not thrilled with the SG’s ceramic neck pickup, but I dig the Mustang format now and prefer having just one pickup in the sweet spot instead of a neck-bridge 2 pickup setup). I guess it largely comes down to the Pawn Shop’s pickup, though. Love the look

After reading the NBD post by @Bass Boy I had all the nudge I needed to give this one a try. Given my recent falling for P tone in general, I don't know how I didn't realize this before, I was anxious to hear this one. Playing it in store when it arrived proved problematic because, as my luck would have it, Eddie Van Halen was there! He was demoing a D'angelico and had the volume of the amp on stun!!

I digress... this bass is excellent! Great P tone with more growl, just as described. I haven't taken more than a couple of photos. This is Sally on her maiden voyage last night. May I have a number please?

Ok folks, I just ordered a JMJ Mustang and I can’t wait. I have turned into a P guy over the past few years, and every time I turn back to one of my other basses (most notably my Stingray), I immediately put it down and turn back to one of my (2) Ps. But I think this is going to be just what the doctor ordered for me as a change-up bass or even a contender for main player!

It was one a mod I was considering myself.

It has been done before: Fender Mustang PJ upgrades

Yep, done that. I prefer the stacked pots, much better control over the volumes. I love the bass but it`s not seeing much use so it has to go..

I've gone through many threads about light weight tuners. I'm trying to decide between the Hipshot Ultralite and the Gotoh Res O Lites for my Mustang PJ. There are seemingly 2 options for the Gotoh Res O Lites. The GB350 which seem really small and light but like the Hipshots would require drilling new holes in the head stock. The Gotoh GB640 looks very similar to the stock Mustang PJ machine heads. They weigh more than the GB350 but less than the stock ones. Does anyone have experience with the GB640 model. Are they direct replacements or do they require some drilling shimming etc. I don't mind drilling new holes but if it's avoidable I'd like to keep the head stock as is. This is all about eliminating neck dive. I've installed a strap lock on the horn only. The extra length helped a tiny bit but I definitely need to replace the tuners and bridge to get it balanced. Any thoughts and experience with this this would be appreciated.
