That is the best looking stack knob I have seen so far ! Extremely rare find in this condition. Congratulations !

Thanks. I feel very fortunate. He bought it new and played it (professionally) for decades, but he took really good care of it. Cleaned it after every gig and kept it inside a pillow case in the hard case.

Fantastic! Patent pending decal, brown tolex case with the lighter orange lining - probably first half of 1961. Did you ever check the pot codes?

It will also have neck date, of course (and very possibly a body date in one of the pickup cavities), but you'll never know unless you take it apart!

May I join? 1961 Jazz Bass. My dad is the original owner, recently passed down to me. Everything's original and never been taken apart. He says he still has the mutes and even likely the bill of sale (looking for that stuff).

#74 for you!!

Amazing bass Ghastly! Very cool to see a '61 sunburst with the red band so vivid - and WIDE!
I wouldn't be in any hurry to take it apart, nothing to prove as you have a one owner story that can actually be believed :D

I guess I should throw mine up here… all have been posted in various different threads anyway, but never in the pre cbs thread where they belong.

'64 P, body only refin. Pearl dots, clay markers.

'62 P, GM Vintage Restorations refin. Original body, neck, pickups, bridge, tugbar(!). Replacement vintage Klusons, all else repro.

Wohoo, my first club! Thanks. Yea, I'll probably take it apart and document the pot numbers/neck date etc. at some point, but not yet.

I wouldn't open it up unless you're selling it, your dad knows its history. The only reason to open it up is either to repair/replace something that broke or to prove to a new buyer its authenticity.

Fantastic collection! Looks like you're #75!

I figured I'd put my old Jazz on here.

It's a '65, but it has the distinction of having a Jan '65 neck date.

It's all original..with an L plate, clay dots, little frets, chrome bling, nice case and it still has its foam ashtray mute.

This bass belonged to a little old lady that played it at church. I swear to you - that's the truth!

Her husband was a pastor and they even produced their own local radio ministry program at their house.

I take her out every now again, check on her and stretch her legs.

Anyway, it's a nice old girl and I've been her steadfast steward since 1988.

yep...

Beautiful Jazz Bass and wonderful story
I love that rich, dark Brazilian Rosewood :woot:

Wonderful and really-really clean.

I got this one a year ago, hardly been able to put it down long enough to post about it...

Neck date 5 jan 64, pots '64 week 3 so just turned 52!

It's an early refin. I'm the fourth owner and the owner before me bought it from the second owner - he'd had it since '68 and had no idea it was refinished, but it should have the "targetburst" finish with less transparent yellow colour so it was refinished sometime before '68. The finish is clearly nitro and has aged very nicely...i think, at least.

Sounds amazing with the 10+ year old GHS flats but I'm contemplating trying some roundwounds on it.

I have the original covers as well, decided to leave them off though.
