Fender pre-CBS Club: pics mandatory!

Suppose one can be a "vintage" owner and not be a Pre CBS guy.
Happy to browse some of the nicest pieces out there and their proud owners.

My worst fear confirmed. I'd assumed for years Pearloid blocks was a '70's thing.
So I guestimated my "Brucie" which my High School sweetheart (now my wife)
bought for me at that time was a '70- something. Recent years I came to realize
the lollipops made it a '66 like my Rosewood Sunburst. Horrible realization I may
have sold off a '66 Pearloid block Maple neck '66 for the sole reason it had been
refinished in Hot Pink. I was going off to Advanced Camp so I wasn't in a stable
state of mind in the first place. If I'd only known. 'Course at that time, the bass
wouldn't have been vintage either- and still not Pre CBS. Altho I, unfortunately, am.

If it had a maple fretboard with pearl blocks, then it was a 1974 or later. Someone must have changed out the tuners for earlier lollipops (used from 66 up until as late as 1970). Maple boards with black blocks debuted in late 68 (the first ones were 2 piece maple without the skunk stripe). Then in 71 they became 1 piece with the skunk stripe (still black blocks until 74).

New addition: 1954 Precision
This bass arrived today. I didn’t put it on a scale, but it feels significantly lighter than my other old Fenders (Telecaster and P). The neck is very chunky, but it has a very soft “V”. I really love the neck. The finish has been removed (the grain looks great), the original pickup and bridge are gone, so no serial number, the p/u and bridge covers appear to be original, one pot has been replaced. Tadeo signed the neck butt “T.G. 3-54”. Theneck is wow, I am going to play the s**t out of this bass. I believe in gigging with these old basses, so this beauty will get a regular workout.

Wow, I mean...Wow!! Love the slab! I recently bought one myself. I will post pics soon. I use it as my main bass. That neck!

Yes the mid-50's "soft V" neck feels and plays great.

I love my 1956 Precision, I gig with it quite regularly. The one-piece ash body is so beautiful, sometimes I just sit there and look at it.
