Fender Rumble Club

There has been a wealth of great information on this thread, and what I have read here over the last few weeks helped me make the decision to downsize, declutter, and lighten my load! I played the Rumble 500 combo at the local music store and loved the punchiness and sound. Last week I sold off my 2 SWR Goliath III 4-10's, Eden 15T and Eden 210T, and used some of the proceeds to buy the The Rumble 500 combo and Rumble 1-15 cab. I won't be able to try this set up with my band until next week, but at home it sounds absolutely fantastic. I'll be proud to have this stack behind me on stage. My first amp was a Bassman in the mid 60's with a 68 Dual Showman coming a few years later. After four decades, I'm back in the Fender family. I still have the Showman head, plugged it in with the 1-15 cab and it is a perfect match! I'm set for any situation now! Thanks for all the help here ladies and gents.
Curious if you tried the 200 and compared the two?

So i really put the v3 200 to the test last night. With a full band practice a heavy hitting drummer and loud guitarist that uses a marshall 4 12.. I have to say it sounds good but i have to say my fender tv15 350 watt seems a little fuller sounding. Plus i had the v3 200 cranked at 3 quarter volume.. im thinking either exchange for a v3 500 which is 350 watts compared to 140. I dont want to add an extension cab since i have killer pa support. . Do you think the 2 10s will be a little lounder with more wattage or not really noticeable? I can just return it and keep my tv15 or exchange it for a 500 or a practice amp lol... what do you all think??

I loved the Fender TV series and always wanted a TV12. They were very expensive as I recall in the thousand dollar range. A far cry from the modest $400 Rumble 200 combo. It also sounds like the TV15 is everything you need in a gig-rig. I understand not wanting to gig with it. They didn't sell well and not many were made. Even though they aren't collectable or in demand now, 50 years from now, who knows, right?

The Rumble 500 combo will give you at least 3dB more volume and move more air with wider dispersion than the Rumble 200 combo. Plus you will really notice the increase in headroom. You will feel the additional watts whether you are using them for volume or not. Does your music store not stock them for you to audition? Mine doesn't. Plus I had to drive over 100 miles each way to Richmond, VA just to play through a Rumble 40 and a Rumble 100. But I enjoyed it. :)

 Rumble On!

how would you compare the v3 rumble cabs to the bassman ones?

I have a bassman 100T and an Orange terror
The Fender Bassman Neos are far and away better. I have a friend over at the Fender Forums that just bought a Bassman 100t with matching 410 neo cab all in blonde & oxblood. Strikingly Retro & Rave Reviews
Fender Rumble Club members Gougedeye and tedsalt both run Bassman neo cabs: 610; and twin 410's respectively. They don't come around much anymore. For the price of a single Bassman 410, you can get an entire Rumble gig-rig. The Rumble 115 & 410 are both getting tons of love and rave reviews also, and if you'd rather have ceramic magnet drivers over neo they are an excellent alternatice choice.

I didn't know you had any friends Linnin. Just kidding!

If you're referring to whom I think you are at Fender Forums, he put together a great gear setup.

RBB - I didn't test drive the 200. A little background...I had been using an 8-10 rig (2 4-10 SWR Goliaths) for the last 15 years powered by a 350 watt SWR head with never a worry about power or headroom in any situation, so I didn't really consider going with less power. In the past few years I have used the Eden 1-15 and 210 cabs with the old '68 Showman head when it was mostly club gigs and to lighten the load. At 62, the load ins/outs became too much, so I began exploring alternatives. This long overdue purchase has become pure heaven to this aching bod!

I was at my local GC, and the store had just bought out the inventory of a music shop that went out of business. Amongst the stock were two Rumble 350 heads and one lone 1x12 neo cab. I nabbed the cab since I already have the 350 head.

Wow, featherweight and goes down low! I have a 2x10 with Basslites, and the cabs compliment each other well and make max use of the heads conservatively rated 350W. I took off the Fender badge so I could turn it either way, and make it even more stealthy. Looking inside, the Eminence neo looks identical to a Deltalite II (cast frame, donut magnet cover). At 250W rating, it seems likely to be a Deltalite. Can anyone confirm what speaker Fender used in these little gems?

How much volume difference can you tell us between the 200 and 500?

It's actually not that much volume difference.

...All the same, the 500 is extremely useful with an external cab, whereas 200 is somewhat limited in that regard.
No-one knows what drivers are in the 200 and 500, and no-one has given us any audio measurements to work with.

If a couple of people wanted to open up their cabs and take pictures of the back and side labels, that might be helpful in getting some more accurate. Someone with a signal generator, a distortion analyzer and a dB meter would be even better.

Meanwhile, we can make a few reasonable guesses:

Cone area varies from one model of driver to another, but I would expect the 15 in the Rumble 200 to have about 20% more cone area than the pair of 10's in the 500, giving it a theoretical advantage of maybe 1.1dB (if I got my math right).

Efficiency-wise, I'm guessing that the 500 should have about a 1.2dB advantage per watt. In other words, the 200 would need to put out about 30% more power than the 500 in order to sound as loud.

Electrically, the Rumble 200 puts out 140 watts into 8 ohms, while the Rumble 500 does 350 into the same load. On the basis of power alone, the 500 should be nearly 4dB louder than the 200.

Combine all these factors, and I would expect the 500 to be between 3 and 5dB louder than the 200.

Like honeyiscool pointed out, that's not an earth shattering difference. But it does imply that the Rumble 200 would need to put out somewhere between 280 and 440 watts into 8 ohms, in order to be equally loud.

I'm about to pull the trigger on the 200, just a question, did someone paired the 200 with a 115 ext. cab?, how about it?
Nobody's given a comparison review.

Guessing is made harder by the fact that the high power rating suggests that the 115 Extension has a different driver than the one in the 200 combo. It could be more or less efficient in terms of dB per watt, so who knows...

Still, the usual factors should apply for the most part:

The stack's low end should sound deeper and richer, because the coupling effect will bump the bottom octave by about 3dB.

Overall loudness should also go up by about 4.5dB. That's partly from doubling the cone area, and partly because the amp puts out more power into a 4 ohm load.

The stack will also sound a little brighter and more detailed, and you'll "feel" the bass more, simply because the upper cab is closer to your ear.

Still, it's an expensive route, when the 500 combo is only $100 more than the 200 combo. If there's any likelihood at all you might need the extension cab at some point, I still maintain that you should start out with the 500. With 250 watts to spare for an extension cab, the 500 is simply going to drive the 115 more effectively.

Loudness-wise, the $500 Rumble 500 should be equivalent to a $700 Rumble 200/115 stack, and the $800 Rumble 500/115 stack to a $1,400 pair of Rumble 200/115 stacks. Those numbers aren't very favourable.

Granted, a double Rumble stack would look impressive, but load-in and load-out would be a pain despite the low weight. Plus, you can get into some seriously tasty rigs for $1400...

Thanks i think im going to trade on the 200 for 500. It will also be new territory for me as i always was a 15 guy.. does anyone know if i can get the shipping paid for on the return and also the 15% coupon honored on the new purchase? I ordered online. .

Luds, can't believe you have not got that 500 yet !!! Even I'm getting fed up, or has your p.c. gone down .... notice no posts.
DOB '47... I'm afraid, did 25 yrs. Joined Talkbass when I was 65 (rumble club no 222)
Roy Piggot/Mick Goodwin ring any bells ??
Fingers crossed 4 500
Sorry mate been on holiday. No not yet, going in to chase them up Monday. I'm desperate to get it now I'm home. Oh I thought 65 was birth year. Goodwin rings a bell but I'm only a baby and joined in 2000, you may have known my dad John Ludlow? You old sweat you;))

A friend had that amp. We were doing a high dollar boo-teek cab comparison with some upper mid level amps. He broke that one out for kicks and it performed impressively. Fit right in with all the expensive stuff. He was the one that told me the new v3 rumbles sounded sounded good which led me to get the 100 combo. Don't know anything about the speakers.

I have a pair of those Rumble 112 neos, and love them to death. All I know is that the woofers are made in Eminence, Kentucky U.S.A. Most likely they are Deltalites tweaked for the cabinet. Notice the almost identical cabinet designs of the Aguilar and GK 112 neo's which are also loaded with Eminence. I like these 12's better than any 15 or 10 I've ever heard or played through. If you aren't going to keep your Fender Bass Amplification badging please send it to me ;)
