The Rumble 15 isn't very good with headphones, I'm afraid. There's a good deal of hiss, which makes me avoid it for headphone practice.

The vox amplug is a cool device. It’s essentially cordless (in that I don’t need a power or instrument cable) just headphones straight from the bass. But they’re not very sturdy, I’m on my 3rd one (finally wised up and got Amazon’s protection plan!)
the R15 would make a classy looking desktop decoration. But if I’m being realistic, I should just get a true headphone amp. If I were to get a practice amp, I would get something with a little headroom and a speaker I could actually use, like a R40

The CRC cleaner will clean the pots. Deoxit D5 also contains a substance which increases conductivity without causing shorts, and it evaporates more slowly to improve the ability to flush contaminates out of your pots. Be sure to wait at least a few minutes after cleaning before powering up again. I let it sit for at least ten to be sure the pots are done dripping.

Thanks, I did look at that earlier, and will likely return. There's a lot of stuff to read in the Wiki section. I read "Pedalboard 101" a couple of weeks ago, and that was kind of a revelation. I'm relatively new at all this, got my first bass in Jan 2014, so lots to learn.
That is a disappointment. I hope the Rumble 40 is better as far as headphones since that was one of the features I am looking forward to using. It arrives today so it seems I will find out soon.
I thought I read that the Rumble pots were sealed and the contact cleaner couldn't get inside them? But, I'm glad to read that they can, indeed, be cleaned. Thanks, Arty!

Absolutely. The 15 is not really typical of the Rumble line in either features or quality. You will fare far better with the 40, I used one with headphones for years.
I’ve heard good things! Possibly a little rich for my blood. I’m surprised at how hard it is to find a headphone amp; with an aux input anyway. There’s the PJB, Palmer pocket amp, Ashdown MiBass... that’s all I’ve seen.
I got time too, hopefully the protection plan actually works and I can get another 4 years outta the vox. I find myself using it less and less. I use it for learning new songs; but old tunes or reviewing/reading jazz charts, I just play unplugged. Also, my 3 year old son makes it hard to leave an amp out; when he’s a bit older I can have a practice amp in the house again!
Hey, Lizzy, I'd be interested to see if your V1 Rumble 25 has the stock speaker wire on the back, since the one I saw obviously didn't. Do you recall a switch to turn the light on & off? Or maybe that was a homemade add-on I read about somewhere.
Color me interested.

They are indeed partially open on my 500 head. Whilst spraying the cleaner into each pot and turning the shaft, I could feel a significant difference in how smoothly they turn. They are all significantly smoother and easier to turn now.

That's an "AMPWEDGE". The one in front. It gives you a bunch of steps to be able to choose the angle of the amp while the back edge of the amp is in contact with the floor. About $30 USD
Thanks for posting this information. I just got my Rumble 40 and spent about 3 hours trying to get it to sound the way I usually hear my basses, through a mixer wearing high quality headphones with flat EQ. I initially got my Jazz with round-wounds sounding reasonable but was getting an overemphasized honk from my P-Bass with flat-wounds. I was about to post for help and I saw the link to this post. Set my EQ as specified here and it is reasonably close, much better than I did. The honk is much diminished and things sound good (little high end loss but with no horn or tweeter it is as much as I could expect).

I just got my Rumble 40 and the headphone out sounds great. I have not tried it with the MP3 input since I don't have the right kind of cable for it yet.
