Fender Rumble Club

I'm in the same boat jdh3000 and thinking different Rumble possibilities over.

I'm either getting a 500 combo + cab, or an 800HD and 2 cabs. My only issue is trying to crunch the possibilities regarding having a backup rig and things I may mix and match with.

For me, I reckon an 800HD and two 2x10 Rumble cabs would be a good modular option with an additional head tucked away as a backup - not necessaily another 800HD - just something to get me by.

My other option would be a 500 combo and Rumble 2x10 cab with the backup head, say...a 800HD so I can go 400w into the 2x10 cab if the 500 combo should fail. If the 2x10 cab fails (how likely is this?), then I have the 350w of the Rumble 500 combo and its DI to fall back on. You're probably wondering, why a backup 800HD and not a 2nd hand 500HD or a Trace Elliot Elf? Because if I add another cab, I have lots of options then and can use the 2 cabs with 800w of the 800HD as my main rig. However, I'm now acutely aware that the latter GAS situation would require a backup-backup head (because I made my backup my main) or dragging the 500 combo around as a backup. I'm just being a greedy git now though - albeit still a bit practical.

What do you experienced Rumblers think of my two potential options above? It would be great to get folks' opinions here in terms of Rumble gear combinations in context of backup rig considerations/recommendations.

I also have an Ampeg SCR-DI and Sansamp Bass Driver which could go to a PA (if a PA is available).

Would you like to borrow this to carry all that gear?

I like your reasoning, coasty! I don't see how you can lose, whichever of those paths you go! Though, personally, as a 5+ years owner of a R500c with zero problems, I'm very impressed with the features and flexibility of the new R800HD.
.
I'd be able to put my planned 12 x 8x10 Ampeg rigs in this too.

 I like your sense of humor, too. But, instead of 12 x 8x10 Ampeg rigs, I'd haul 6 x 16x10 Rumble 800 HD rigs! That would be six of these:

Yeah, I'm quite the photoshopper. :smug:

So this question has probably been asked hundreds, if not thousands of time here on the Rumble thread, but I will ask for clarification again. :)

I have a Rumble 500 Head and I currently use it with a Rumble 1x15 Cab. Currently still practicing at home but getting ready to try to get in a blues band, although I am going to hang low and continue to practice until this pandemonium passes.

Is it OK to use only the 115 with the 500W head? I think when I was checking out amps and cabs, a 115 or a 210 was suggested to go with the 500 Head.

So if my 500W head puts out 350W at 8 Ohms, and the 115 cab is rated at 300W, is is safe to use? My assumption is as long as I do not MAX out the volume and gain, I should be OK.

Note: Edited to fix typing and grammar errors.

Thanks!

You could rewire the 500 so that it is a cab-only when driven by an external amp. It would then become a backup as well.

Yes! Modifying a R500c to "separate the combo's amp and speaker(s)", as shown in some links of that name in the Rumble Modifications section of the Rumble Club Wiki page, linked in my signature, is an interesting way to add flexibility!
.
That's actually not a bad idea.

But, it could be a very bad idea if this modification voids the manufacturer's warranty and a problem ensues! Hmmm, my 5+year-old R500c is now out of warranty. Well, ... now, uh, . . . .

Yeah, I was thinking 'bout that for my 2015 200c but there's really no need. Still........

Wow, all this talk of 16x8x10, etc reminds me of the Blue Oyster Cult album that opened up to a full width of Marshall Stacks!!! Must have been 40 or so cut and pasted in? Then that reminds me of Spinal Tap doing Big Bottom with all members playing various basses. (I still have that on VCR and should pull out that old player!!hah hah).

Attention: Rumble Club Wiki Edit Alert!

Thanks, @GonePlaid. Your comment above reminded me of a needed Warranty Warning on the Rumble Club Wiki page at the top of the Rumble Modifications section, which has now been added. That's a very valuable point to our owners, who should not make irreversible modifications to their Rumbles while still under warranty.

Thank you, GonePlaid, for your valuable contribution.

I saw them on their "On Your Feet or On Your Knees" tour. When the whole band was playing guitars and bass, I felt like that guy in the Maxell ad (or Bloom County). Or rather, since those came later, they probably based them on me at that concert.

In the middle o' my cogitatin' 'bout "separating my R500 combo's amp and speakers", I remembered that 2 o' my Bassman combos already gots this on the back, which does the same thang. Never used it, just experimented. So, think I'll wait to see a need before cutting into my trusty Rumble.

PS: Both my Bassman combos already have an internal 4 ohm speaker for max power. So using this feature could only be instead of the internal speaker, not in addition to it, like the Rumble Mod.
