Meanwhile, over the Atlantic in Bonnie Scotland.....while I hang around waiting for the Coronavirus to get bored and go home, I spent today playing along with the songs in the Soul Fingers book. I used my 59 Precision (with flats, obvs) through my 500c. Duck is without doubt the man.

Hello from Tayside Davie123. :D

I was gonna ask if the Duck Dunn book was tabbed. I now know it is having eventually found sample pages online. I may have to get that one.

I have a Rumble 500c coming tomorrow and already have the Motown Bass Classics book. However, I bought the Standing in the Shadows of Motown book quite some time ago, which only has standard notation, by mistake. :rollno:

Fit like loon?
I have the Standing in the Shadows of Motown book as well, it's a good way to practice your reading skills!

By request. An updated Fender Family Photo with my new R500c. Gotta get busy!

Thank you, Frank, you! @Frankie Fender, (how apropos) you are now member #1200 in the Fender Rumble Club. Congratulations and welcome. That's a fine flock o' Fenders you have there. Please tell us about 'em and how you came to be a Rumbler.

With this membership milestone we enter a new era of distinction, if not notoriety. Thus begins The Covid Chronicles of homebound bass Rumblings. Let's everybody stay healthy out there and, by all means do continue to . . . .

Rumble On!

I have the Duck Dunn Soul Fingers book. It is half biography (great reading) and the sheet music with tabs to about 50 songs. Also you can download most of the songs tabbed out to play along with. You can change the fade to remove the bass so it is a backing track.

Here is a link to it. I highly recommend it as a Duck Dunn fan. There are sample pages from the book in the link.

Having been on notation since 7y/o, tab makes no sense at all to me.

Perhaps once I finish the Shadows of Motown book I'll feel the same. I'll give it a good go. Thanks.

Should clarify. Started on piano, played woodwinds through jr and sr h.s. and the Navy, picked up bass last year of Navy duty, so I've read all along for some 67 years.

Since my musical background before picking up the bass was playing blues harmonica, I did not have much music theory knowledge. I played harp by ear following the standard I IV V chord changes.

Since picking up the bass, I have been trying to learn some basic music theory.

I picked up the Hal Leonard Complete Bass Book Volume 1-3. Right away you start having to read sheet music. I find time each work to work on the sight reading although not required for the blues.
